Question Aftermarket shifters bad for a Daily Driver ?

I heard from several people recently that aftermarket shifters are not a good investment if you use your car as a daily driver.. Is this true?

I understand that many people do have aftermarket shifters (Pro 5.0 / Ripper) on their daily drivers, but is there any additional risks to your transmission with an aftermarket setup that only sees the track a few times a year?

TIA

There are no additional risks with an after market shifter on your T56.

I daily drove my car with a Pro-5.0 for many years.

Risks?

I've never heard of any extra dangers from shifter itself. I've seen some overzealous people bend or break a junk *ebay* stick though.

I wouldn't worry about it, a good shifter just makes the car nicer to drive.

If anything would be a concern, it would be the extra noise that aftermarket shifters tend to generate. Other than that, I never had one single problem due to my B&M Ripper, and the extra noise was negligible.

100K miles, 7.5 years, daily driven in ALL weather conditions. I had the Pro 5.0 on it the day I drove it home from the dealer, new (had the shifter waiting to go on before I took delivery!). NOT ONE problem in all that time, but as Meents said, it is a little noisier than the mushy, padded stock deal.

it's something that you get used to, and if it's taken away, you're going to make a fuss and want it back. They get rid of the longer shift throws. Speed shifting will be a breaze

Well said...I put my stock shifter back on (the factory Hurst) just for giggles one time, and I couldn't believe how much nicer my B&M felt compared to it. I put the B&M back on ASAP.

I like it better than any stock shifter because it feels nice and precise, not like you're moving a spoon through a bucket of mashed potatoes.

An aftermarket shifter like the pro 5.0 is actually SAFER for your transmission due to the mechanical built in stops. Allowing you to slam through your gears as hard as you want without worry of damaging your transmission. And people complain about the noise of these aftermarket shifters but my pro 5.0 makes exactly the same amount of noise as my stock shifter.

Replacing the stock shifter no matter how the car is driven has no downside.
