Default less abrupt clutch???

I have a spec 3 in the car now that has given trouble free service for 29000 miles. The only problem is I keep wounding ring and pinions at the track, number nine just took a hit.Every time I go to the track the ring and pinion get noisy and I'm thinking its because the clutch hits so hard.Is there a
different clutch you experts can recomend that would have a little slip on launch but still hold a resonable amount of power while still being reliable.
Car makes a bit over 400 to the wheels na and I will spray up to 200 more.
This spec 3 is the older puck style .I know a McCleod softlock would be ideal
but I don't know if it's a good idea on a street car.Got any other ideas?

Sure a 9" will fix it ,that was not the question asked in the thread. I'll put a 9" in it
just send the money.

I didn't mean to sound like a smartass, sorry. I'm sure there are 100 members that would buy your 12 bolt about an hour after you posted it for sale. 12 bolts hold up just great, but most of them are going to whine after clutch dumps. That's life with an M6 man.

i've heard the same thing too. 12 bolts just can't take the shock on a m6. they develope gear whine after several hard launches.

How can you afford all those ring and pinions (plus a 12 bolt) and NOT afford a 9"??

I read a quote on here something to the effect of:

"...there is always enough money to do things more than once, but never enough to do it right the first time..."

I know thats not what you wanted to hear, but for me, I break something once and I get something that won't break again.

I'd like to keep the abs function and a 9" does not support 3 channel abs.Plenty of stock eliminator cars cut low 1.3 high 1.2 60's on these 12 bolts, granted with a spool.
This last ring and pinion went over a year with no noise untill I surcumed the the temptation of the dragstrip. The thead was about a more driveline freindly clutch not
a 12 bolt vs 9" debate, lets keep it on topic shall we.

I'm not sure then how to answer on a "drive line friendly" clutch. You need a clutch that bites off the line, I don't think you want something that's gonna slip. And I think it's pretty sad if you are making 400 at the wheels and blowing up 12 bolts with everyone saying a 12 bolt is god send. There's guys on here doing the same stuff with 10 bolts and they are holding up lol. But anyways you could look into an LS7 or maybe a full face Spec that won't grab as hard? Spec 3+ or something?

I'm thinking a twin disc of some sort with a organic disc set up.And 10 bolts would not
hold up in this car I assure you.The new gear set wil be cyrogenicly treated and perfectly set up once more, this time with a trutrac differential.Suspension is fully adjustable and rod ended on this car so it shocks things a bit more than a stocker.

Are you sure your 12 bolt has been set up properly ? in terms of ring and pinion installation and tolerances ?

If the problem is in the rear end.....kinda hard to start blaming something so far away.

Yes I am confident the rear was set up properly,I've used 4 different installers including
myself. The rear has a solid pinion spacer ,we've tried both timken and koyo bearings, indexed the carrier, jigged housing to check for straighness and perpendicularity.
Each time the rear is quiet on break in and street duty,Bolt on some sticky tires and head for the track and it whines like the ex wife on payday. So now i'm cyro treating
the internals and looking for aclutch that will play nice with them.

Can you slip that oz700 on a launch? When I try to slip this spec it heats up and grabs anyway, then It make the pedal low to the floor after trying to slip it.Must heat up and
grow when I try and slip it.Something has to give on a launch with a stick and i'd like
it to be the clutch. The ceramic material on the one I have now is very abrupt!

Then dont slip it !!!

Clutches can slip, but they arent supposed to be.
