still having problems, someone PLEASE help!!!
ok, everything is new from the block to the trans.....
all spec stuff
stage 3+ clutch, spec flywheel, brand new gm slave, new pilot and throwout bearings, everything is torqued down properly, we checked and double checked....
start the car, and there is still a rattle, i have NO clue what it could be, im stumped.
can anyone describe what clutch chatter sounds like?
i think im gonna get a video for you guys to diagnose cause we are lost!
ANY help will be good. thanks.

Chatter occurs when you are releasing the pedal, engageing the clutch, and is generally limited to 1st gear/reverse starts. It is a sound attributed to the disc material contacting the flywheel (think of it as the material scuffing across each other). Gear noise is already a common factor with the T56...the tranny make a little noise from the factory and a lightened flywheel can allow this sound to be heard more clearly because of the reduce mass and thus decreased dampening.
Something to check...does the sound happen when the pedal is released only (does it go away when you put pressure on the pedal)? Is it a sound only or is there a feel associated with it (vibration). If there is a vibration, does it change with RPM (i.e. is the frequency relative to engine speed). Let me know and I will be happy to assist you further. Thanks!!!

That **** sound really messed up, are you sure its coming from inside the bellhousing? Id be pulling **** apart ASAP that really sounds bad. My 3+ makes no sounds like that at all.

my car had just started making that exact same noise. i thought it was inmy clutch to. So I pulled the tranny and the clutch didnt have anything noticably sticking out. So I started the engine without the tranny hooked up. guess what.....still knocking. Time to pull the motor. Maybe it is in your clutch, just sounds to consistent with the RPM's.

WOW!! I too vote internal engine noise, connecting rod bearing, cracked/broken piston in rist pin area, or worn wrist pin. Was this engine completely dissassembled, were the wrist pins properly lubed on reassembly?

Quit Reving that thing. It doesn't sound like the clutch to me. I agree with Midget on this one. If your clutch pedal is pushed in it should disengage the clutch so the noise shouldn't be there. If it is still there then it should go away with the clutch engaged. I have never heard any clutch noise that does while engaged and disengaged and the noise stays the same. I had a bolt on time that came out of the slave cylinder and was bouncing around my bellhousing and it didn't make that much noise. I would pull tranny and start car with tranny unbolted and clutch pulled off. Don't run it very long like that and see if the noise is still there.

Sounds like a valvetrain problem. Piston to valve contact. valve guide too tight holding the valve open. Something hitting the pistons from up top or something in the rotating assembly. I'd even guess something fell inside the intake port and it bouncing around on top of a piston.
