You don't need to shim it and you will need an alignment tool. You can use a impact to get the flywheel off and a 1/2 drive ratchet to put it on

no need for shim and if i were u i would go with a lighter flywheel because the the ls7 clutch + pressure plate setup is about 15 pounds heavier, and also when reinstalling the tranny to the car, loosen the bleeder screw to releave the hydralic pressure in the slave so the transmission bolts tighten easy goodluck

i just installed ls7/ls2 setup yesterday. my kit did not come with a damn alignment tool so the hunt was on. autozone only carried a 22 and 23 spline we need a 26. nobody else around here even stocked them. my brother in law the ol gear head had a 26 spline gm sitting in his tool box WOOOT!!!. I didnt shim mine, didnt do the pre adjustment. drove the car last night and felt great. didnt think the pedal was as bad as others seemed to explain and was very tolerable.
