Question New rebuilt T56 Grinds New 4th Gear

Just has my T56 Rebuit with all new upgraded parts.
(1A Package & brand new 4th gear from six speeds inc)
All gears work great but it grinds when engaging 4th.
The hydralics are working great with stock adjustable master.
I have it so it engages half way up right now to make sure it is disengaging.
What can be wrong? It never grinded 4th before I guess it was worn out.
It does not grind if its not moving. Once above 5mph it grinds 4th when first put it in. Once in 4th works fine. Help.

I also tried double clutching and hesitating before going into 4th.
Still grinds in 4th only.

Isn't this the one John called me about friday on my cell. About the clutch dragging? If it is the same one we didn't rebuilt it. It was rebuilt locally right?

Yes. I was going to call you on Monday.
The clutch is definitely not draging. All other gears are fine.
The clutch does not grab until half way up.
What could have been done wrong or not done, bad part.
I am very frustrated.

Okay it is the clutch dragging. He said you can put it in 1st with the clutch pushed in and rev it to 4000 and it starts creaping forward. I told him that is a classic clutch issue. He was going to talk with you about his. We know he put the trans together correctly and the trans is not the issue. I still stand on it needing a mcleod adjustable master just like all of the 15 other Textrailias I have done.

Thanks,
Amber

I wish this was the case but it does not creep one bit for me.
I just went in the garage and tried it again.
Rev'd it to 4000 and it does not creep. Lift the pedel 40% then it starts to creep. HELP.

Well I can only go by what John told me on Friday. I don't know what else to try at this point. We know he built the trans to spec and checked all of his clearances and all is well. Hopefully you will figure it out but I am stumped as he told me different.

Thanks,
Amber

Ok thanks.
Do you have an Mcleod in stock? Do you check them?
Can you check mine if I ordered one. Do you have rebuid kits for them.
I have read allot if horror stories about them.
If it does not fix the problem can I return it?
Guess I will skip 4th for now. All others work great.

I have one and no there are no returns if you use it. Even if it doesn't fix the issue. I have the rebuilds kits and as far as checking them you can't until they are in the car. I personally have never once had any issues with them.

Just to verrify the clutch is not draging. Try jacking up the rear and do the same thing.

I'm fighting a draging clutch right now. But it dosen't cause it to grind going into any gears unless I shift it to fast.

I am fighting what I think to be a dragging clutch as well. If it doesn't spinn with the wheels off the ground, does it pinpoint the tranny as the problem?

I doubt its the clutch dragging if it only does it in 4th gear . Sounds to me like he might have forgot to put the 4th gear ring in the unit or the lining on the ring came off the steel part . If the clutch is dragging enough to effect 4th gear then 1st and reverse should be hell to shift into .

Update,
I installed a brand new GM Master & Textralia sent me a Brand new OZ700!
My installer called me and said the clutch seems to be releasing properly with no dragging. And he partially disassembled my tranny to inspect and everything looked fine.
BUT 4TH STILL GRINDS! I think car is cursed or something!
My installer is going to get ahold of Amber to see if they can figure out whats wrong.
$914 in parts $300 for rebuild labor, $300 for clutch install twice and its still not right.
I am just extremely frustrated and out of ideas.
My installer sent me this pic.

I can't come up with any other ideas from what you already checked. I will rack my brain and see if I can think of anything else to check.

Thanks,

Ok Thanks.
I forgot too add, I had Jon replace the Slave w/throwout bearing too.
So Everything is new.
Could it be endplay on the input shaft (4th Gear).
Not sure if he had the right tools to measure?
I am thinking the best thing would be sending the tranny too you.
He still has the car and said he was going to call you.

Can you post a picture of the input shaft (more specifically the tip of the input shaft where the pilot bearing rides) ?

It is my installers hands right now.
He just contacted me and he is going to pull the tranny again to check the end play. May be too tight. He did install a new pilot bearing originally.
I supplied him with a bronze bushing too install if he though it was needed.

Amber, Thank you for all your help!

Being too tight will not cause it to scratch in 4th gear .

How about too loose? He took it apart and adjusted the endplay looser.
Now its grinding in 3rd & 4th! Its actually worse in 3rd now.
With the car off it is real hard to get into 3rd or 4th.
It will go half way (where it would grind if running) then if you push harder
it will pop into gear and it does not matter in the clutch pedal is down or not.

I re-installed my adj Ram Master last night and it made no difference.
The clutch is not dragging anymore. I have it adjusted all the way out.
It is engaging about 70% up right now just too make sure.
