There is no safe way about it. Its brutal to a transmission but prduces great results at the track.

i did it for the first time, damn does it make a difference. you can really feel the rpms jump between shifting. but after your done you know the clutch and tranny are hurting.

Plus the fact you can also dig a grave for your 10 bolt if you hook on the 1-2 shift real hard Or even hook on launch I don't powershift my car... i'd like the keep my 10 bolt in 1 piece for the time being.

Exactly. Unless you have a beefy 10 bolt or something better I would not do it on a DD or Mid modded car.

Im asking because my z is currently pretty stock. I raced a srt8 charger and had a excellent launch and sat right with him but lost by a fender because of me shifting (not power shifting) .. Granted this was only a short race threw 1,2 and right into 3rd but it pissed me off.

losing for free is better than winning and it costing you a ton of cash though.

I have powershifted my car for all my ET bests. I don't always do it. The first couple of passes of the day I take it easy, and work my way up to full powershifting.

I have over 350passes on my stock T-56 running everything from 12.8 stock to 10.7s with Juice to 10.4 with NA H/C now.

Its all in your technique. If you do it right, you don't hurt anything.

Having a clutch that can engage/diengage fast and precice is a big part of it as well. The stock clutch will usualy not let you shift fast enough to make a safe powershift.

After the stock clutch, I have used CARTEK clutches exclusevly.

I beg to differ. I have see myself pick up two tenths over the owners of some cars I have driven at the track because I was able to powershift and they were not.

those two tenths were from you being able to shift QUICKER than them.

I have more then 350 passes in my car, and probobly close to 100 in other peoples LSx Camars, Firebirds and Corvettes.

All have proven to gain 1 to 2 tenths from powershifting.

Powershifting GRINDS the gears down in the tranny. You will see when your tranny goes and you look at the parts. I stopped but you could tell I was hitting 2nd hard and 4th because the gears were getting grinded down (tranny was open because I had a issue with Reverse).

I quick shift now, let off just a bit. Much easier on drivetrain.

I think 350+ passes says otherwize. If you powershift right, fast, and presice, you hurt less of the car then if you did not.

I keep the throttle planted to the floorboards, tap the clutch about an inch, and pull the lever. If you have a good enough clutch, that time is enough to it to disengage/engage. So your tranny will be fine it its done right and with the right equipment.

It is harder to powershift a Vette because of the shifter linkage, but its is still very posible and will show a great improvement in ET and MPH
