Default ????????LS7 or Spec 3+?????????

Hey guys im gonna be changing my clutch over the christmas break and im not sure which one to go with. I have an 02 SS with the mods in my sig, i pplan on putting a set of TSP 5.3 heads and maybe a 100 shot of juice, i was wondering if the LS7 clutch would hold up. Im leaning more toward the LS7 bc of price. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd go Spec between those choices....

My LS7 held up quite well behind my H/C/I/N2O TA. I never had a single problem with it at the track or on the street

thanks z28, i figured id get the LS7 and if it dosent work for me then im only down 400 bucks, i also think that the LS7 would be a little more streetable and stock like feeling. Z28, what kind of power are you making and what rpm do you launch at, at the track?

the only negative with the LS7 clutch and flywheel is that it weighs 8lbs more than the stock ls1 setup 57lbs vs 49lbs. But in terms of bang for the buck, you can't beat the ls7.

Would i notice the difference in wieght? If so how?

The car was making 450+ at the tires, then a 150 shot on top of that. I was launching between 45-4800 on nitrous but my car still had the stock 3.42s in it so I didn't push my luck. I was running Hoosier slicks at 14 psi on Welds

A little, I've heard some people compalin about that. It could cost you 5-8rwhp but if you have H/C and 100 shot, I wouldn't even worry.

thanks guys for the help, its greatly appreciated. Z28, what heads and cam setup were you running, and i assume the intake was a FAST 90/90.

It was TSP Stg 2.5 5.3s and the MS3 on a 113 and you are correct it was a FAST 90/90 (which will be for sale this week)

Ok its probably about 10 pounds heavier. Its not going to hurt him that bad. The only thing I can say feels different on my car is the smooth engagement, and of course clamping power.

He could easily remove weight elsewhere to make up for weight added to drive line....

LS7 gets my vote, but I've never driven a car with a Spec in it. So I'm by no means saying not to get the spec, but I stand firmly by the LS7 being a great clutch.

thanks for all the help, im ordering the LS7 today but, i dont know if i should get a new slave cylinder or not. I have and 02 with 23,000 miles on it. I know 01-02 came with the upgraded slave. My question is; should i get a new one or just use the one i already have?

Chances are that your slave is worn already. Your best bet is to get a new one and be done with it. It saves you having to drop the trans a second time...

My Spec 3+ was great....for about 3k miles. Not only that but the engagement was right at the very tip top and it was heavy as ****. My LS7 has lasted through my cam only setup, my H/C setup pushing 451rwhp AND now my 384 stroker setup. I just recently pulled everything out to install my new remote bleeder and the clutch looks brand new. I still to this day HAVE NOT had any problems with the clutch. The hydraulics....now thats a different story

would i be fine with my stock master cylinder? Should i get ARP bolts? If so, which ones?

ARP bolts aren't really a must....I said Spec because I've seen the LS7's give out relatively quick on a car that gets launched on tires (and makes decent power)....

Go ahed and get a new slave/master, and do the drill mod while you're at it, if you haven't already...
