HELP!Why does my girlfriends car drive in NEUTRAL! Wont go in any gear... Ok driving home today on a routine slow down and downshift the car would NOT come out of 3rd gear..after ripping it out of 3rd gear and getting the shifter in neutral the car still goes forward but will not go into any gear....the car is a 2003 jetta 1.8t. Anyone got any answers?

check the bolt that connects the cable to the rods, my buddys VR6 had the issue and it was just loose, throw the shfiter into nuetral and throw the tranny into nuetral by using the linkage on the tranny

Are you sure its stuck in first ? I would do as suggested above . Disconnect the linakages (there should be two of them) and put the transmission back in neutral at the linkage . Once you do that , check and see if the car will move still . If it does , you broke something in the shift area of the transmission like a fork .

Man the horror stories with newer VWs. The 4 my friends family had went to crap in so many different ways. One had the flywheel crack in 3 pieces and it only had 4k on it.
His new 07 Rabbit seems to be fairing a bit better so far.
I think fork got broken too?
