Default Confused with factory shifters

Back last fall I bought a bone stock 2001 ss, m6, it was a factory ss car with all the options, including the hurst shifter, shortly after I put in a umi short stick, and loved it, but I sold the car shortly thereafter. Now I have a 2001 z-28 stripper. It has the non hurst shifter with the plain round ****. I assumed the shifters were different from the true ss's, but I removed the boot to just see what the difference was, to my surprise it was identical to my ss. Umi even stats on there website that their short stick only fits hurst shifters, and won't fit non-hurst cars. Is the hurst shifter package just a shifter **** with an H on it? Bought the Z from the original owner, who knew nothing about cars, so I know it hasn't been changed, car is completely stock. Is the hurst shifter just a big ripoff?

No. The Hurst shifter package included an upgraded shifter along with the ****. Lots of people upgraded their shifters and sold their stock Hursts to others. Somebody probably added the Hurst to yours.

I understand your confusion cause the Factory optional Hurst doesn't look much different than the regular Shifter but it is different. Though they both use the same stick the Hurst mechanism sits higher off the transmission making for a shorter throw.

Go for a new after market Hurst shifter. It will get rid of the rubbery feel of the stock sticks and should also take your short stick just fine.

bolt pattern for the shift stick is identical on the FACTORY shifter (base model) and the FACTORY slp-hurst shifter.

the "different" bolt pattern for the stick is only for the aftermarket hurst shifter i beleive

i've machined shift sticks for several people. the same stick fits V6, base V8s and the upgraded factory Hurst shifters.
