Question which clutch to buy? suggestions...

well every1 i think my clutch is pretty much gone. so now my next prject is to buy one and install. so which one would u guys suggest for a 2000 ls1 thats has full exhaust intake and possibly mild cam? im also going to be buying heads and intake manifold soon. so wat would u guys suggest. my budget is prob like $300-600. should i just replace the clutch and get the fly wheel resurface or just get a new one? need all the help i can get thanx.

pick up the ls7 clutch...it is a very good clutch....i wouldn't recommend resurfacing the flywheel...that can lead to some damn drama down the road...just pick up an aluminum flywheel

I got the LS7 clutch and LS2 flywheel combo for $399 from Scoggin Dickey. It's made for the LS7, so it can handle around 500 fwhp. It should be able to handle what you want to do with it.

Plus, it feels great. IMO, it's short and firm. You have to use some muscle, but it won't make you sore. If that makes sense..

i plan to get the LS7 clutch/LS2 Flywheel setup but i know i cant install it myself and i no some friends that could help but im sure they never did a clutch on there LS1 cars so im scared to have a friend do it for me because of the problems people have with them being installed. You think like a normal Tranny shop would be ok to use?

Texas Speed recommended RAM for me. Price is reasonable. Clutch feels good to me, not to stiff. Very easy to install.

I put the LS7 clutch / LS2 flywheel on my car after my stock clutch went out, and I've been very happy with the results. It launches very well, and retains the feel and ease of use that the stock LS1 clutch had. Plus, it can handle 500-ish hp. My vote is the LS7.

I have the exact same car as you and went with a RAM Powergrip, and billet flywheel, the parts are within your budget but you will go over if you are not doing the install. There is no chatter in this clutch a all, stay away from Spec.

ls7 ls2 cltch and flywheel. ive done a **** load of research for my A4 swap and every one hates the spec clutches and loves the ls7 set up. only thing bad about the ls7 set up ive heard of is the clutch not releasing when launching at high rpm's. dont bother w/ an alum flywheel. if it was an all out drag then id say maybe. seems like the ls7 clutch doesnt like heat so i dont think the alum flywheel would be a good idea.

LS7 w/ out a doubt. STAY AWAY form the Powergrip. I've had personal experiance with it and it crapped out on me after a proper 600mi break-in and 16k miles of street driving. Barely ever raced - only 5 passes on it launching softly (2.2 60's). The LS7 clutch is a great setup for a mild heads/cam car and the peddal pressure is phenominally light, making it a great DD clutch that'll hold up to some respectable power.
