Default spec 3 help

hey everyone i just purchased my 98 camaro with a new ls1 built and the guy i bought it off of said there was a new spec stage 3 clutch he said mabe like 200 miles on it. the thing is that it does shudder like a high performance clutch but the pedal is realy high and its seems to slip bad at about half throttle. i havent jumped on it because its a new engine so im hoping that the clutch needs to break in to. any ideas if this clutch is garbage

You'll have to pull the tranny and take a look.Maybe it's soaked with oil or it's an old beat up clutch in there. It doesn't blow in 200 miles for no reason.

You can certainly try bleeding the hydraulics to begin with. This may fix your problem. You should also check the condition of the hydraulic fluid too...if it is cloudy it needs to be flushed and refilled. After that let us know what you experience. If worse comes to worse you can pull the clutch and email some pics for assessment. I will be happy to assist you with any further questions you may have so just let me know. Thanks!

Dude, for the sake of your feet, pull that clutch before it blows up and destroys your car.
I have seen 2 Vettes get totaled from that POS clutch, and there have been countless others.

Not wanting to take away from the high of owning a nice Z28, but you really should consider this advice.
Do a search here for SPEC 3 and blown up....you will not be happy with what you see.

I've had my spec 3 for a year now and haven't had a problem either.
To the OP, just check the easy stuff first before pulling that tranny. We all know about pulling the M6 lol.

Another extremely populer instal mistake is when people reuse the old slave but replace the bearing. There is a spacer/washer that is part of the bearing that will get stuck in the slave. You have to pull it out with a small screw driver before installing the new throw out bearing. If you don't it will act like a spacer and consistantly put pressure on the clutch causing it to slip. I had 1 car that had 4 of them in there.New clutch would not engage at all, then we pulled them out and it worked perfect.

O-ya, clutch explosions.I do remember a group of guy's (2) that blew up there clutches.Just seamed wierd that they were friends and the same person did the installs. We've installed probly 35-40 SPECs throughout the years and never had one come apart.Must be luck.
