Default Aftermarket T56 on an LSx?

I'm starting to map out my overall goal for my IROC (LSx, T56, 9" rear), and part of that is what T56 to get. I intend to run an LS-based motor in the car, but won't be building that until I can raise the money by selling my Corvette. I thought that I might like to start with the T56, but since the LSx motor won't be getting built right away, I'd rather be able to use the T56 with my 350 until I get the LS motor in. I have heard that the aftermarket T56 is basically the LS1 unit with the adapter plate that allows me to bolt it to my T5 bellhousing.

What changes to the trans would I need to make to use it with the LS motor later on?

Likewise, if I were to buy a used LS1 or GTO T56 now, can I just slap that $250 adapter plate onto it and use it with my existing T5 hardware?
