Default use cereal box for gasket?

hey guys i just bought a pro 5.0 shifter and i was reading some threads about people not liking the fact of using rtv to seal the new shifter to the trans..so i was thinking do you think cutting a cereal box for a gasket would work fine and help reduce the noise from the shifter?

I dont know about noise reduction, but it would seal it up, far as fluid leaking out. I've used that method on several hydraulic applications at work...Only as a last resort those, lol. Cracker boxes work too

It might work, i've never really thought about it being the same type of material as an actual gasket. Fwiw, my local hardware store had small rolls of gasket material on the shelf.

wow never heard of cereal boxes, don't see why it wouldn't seal that up though, I don't think a lot of fluid makes it's way up there. Make a run to an auto parts store though, I found a gasket material set at advance for pretty cheap. Has 4 sheets of different materials, rubber, rubber/somethin, cork, and I can't remember, but it's helped me a crapload for numerous things!

I used a cereal box and started leaking fluid immediately. RTV'd it and it's been fine. That's my vote.
