Question 400-500hp, need new tranny

iam gonan drop a 400+ carbed 383 into my 92 rs, i want a manual tranny, are there anyways to beef up the t5 to make it handle more power? id love to have a t56 but those are really hard to find down in louisiana, by the way will a t56 bolt up to just about any 350? and how would i go about finding the right rear end for the car, will a 4th gen z28 bolt right up and handle the power iam gonna throw at it? this isnt exactly a daily driver, kinda more of a go out on the weekends tear up the street and strip but also be about to take a cruise around the town with the other cars from the area

First question you asked the answer is yes.
No the t56 from a 4gen will not bolt right up need and adapter. but it will handle a 400hp motor. You can go about find the right axle by seeing how much your pocket book can handle. If you have the money for a new rear go ford 9 inch.

Actually a LT1 T56 will bolt up. I think there are a few things to keep in mind but for the most part, it will work. The LS1 T56 uses a push setup while the LT1 uses the older pull style.

Don't bother with the T5. Spend the money and go with the T56. And at that power level, I wouldn't bother with a 10-bolt as your current rear is probably just as strong, if not stronger, but neither will likely hold for very long if you're launching and running it hard.

You can have a T5 built to hold about 500 fwhp using the A5 gear kit but the cost of doing that starts to get up there with a used T56 and even a Tremec TKO .

The diff in your car is basically the same one as the later 4th gen cars with the exception of the center carrier . Its one of the weak links you will be faced with later down the road . With a 383 in place , you should be able to use either the TKO or T56 fairly well . Both are going to have their challenges both in installation and in cost . It will be far cheaper to install a nicely built 700R4 instead but what fun is that right ????

I did an 82 Firebird for a customer a few years ago with a 383 SBC making about the same power you want and did a T56 in it as well . It ran pretty decent but ended up costing a pretty penny before it was said and done .
