okay this was quite a while back on z28.com but a mechanic over there, his name was Rob aka Poltergeist SWORE that the Borg-Warner/Tremec T56's LOVED Honda ATF, I've used that ever since and after 100-150 miles sucker shifted real slick and I LOVED it.

Right now I got RP in it and it's not good, hard to shift in higher RPM's so I'm going to switch back to Honda ATF

Here's an update for my experience with other fluids, since I believe this is a very important thread. I just replaced my old dexron iii and put Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF into my T56 because I couldn't find dexron iii or synchromesh anywhere, and now it grinds in every gear when you shift hard. Of course this might be being caused by the fact that it is currently winter or the fluid might not be broken in? (Doesn't make sense, but I'm trying to find a reason why it's causing grinding). In anycase, I'm going to stay away from Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF from now on.

OK so per Tremec we should be using Dexron III... However when I went to OReily to get some fluid, it was branded as Automatic Transmission Fluid... Is this correct?!?!

This is what they had, and it states AUto on the bottle.. Is this ok?

Last thing I want to do is to put the wrong fluid in

Yes. Although I would personally get the AC Delco stuff.

4 liters will be spilling out of the fill hole, if you try to put ALL of them in, even with the car jacked up on the side of the fill hole, let alone with the car level on a lift.

I would stop at 3.75 liters or so.

Digging this back up!

Any verdicts out there yet? dexron III only appears to be available around here as store brands (Advance, oreillys, etc).

My tranny was just rebuilt and the shop swears on the Mobil 1 synthetic, but basically I got a brand new tranny at this point.
Adding Mobil 1 synthetic to an older tranny may **** up the gaskets like it does when switching to synthetic on higher mileage LS motors?

Hey Carlos.

The ultra RTV used for case sealing and the few o-rings and seals will be fine with any of the ATFs.

I live in New England so cold weather is a possibility so I'm hesitant to use synthetic
