Angry T-56 left me stuck at a gas station today!

Ok today on my way to work, the car was warm, but not all the way. I gave it about half throttle in 3rd gear and felt a slight hesitation. It was strange and instantly felt like MAF problems again. I get on the next road right in front of a gas station today, and was in 1st gear and gave it about 3/4 throttle, and around 3500-4000 it just "slips" and shoots up to like 6000 rpm without moving the car at all, while the shifter stays in 1st.

I push the clutch in to shift into 2nd and the clutch says on the floor, after a few pumps, it comes back up, but the car will not move with throttle. It was exactly like giving it throttle in neutral. So i'm at the gas station, trying to move, and I can put my car in gear, let the clutch out all the way and the car just idles. It will not move in any gear and does not attempt to at all. Nor will it stall. Now I can hear an exact periodic rattling noise with pauses in between coming from the transmission below. When i push the clutch in, it makes the same noise.

So, thankfully I was able to get my car towed for free, thanks to my girlfriend's dad to her house so we can take a look at it tomorrow. What would cause this?

Oh, also, i just ordered about $600 worth of parts including headers, ram air intake, and cutout that will probably have to be cancelled so i can afford to get my transmission repaired.

Can you shift into gear without using the clutch while the engine is running?

If so it sounds like a blown clutch. I ahd the one in my 96Z blow one day on the way to work...cruising down the freeway and I hear a loud BANG and while coasting could shift the trans with the clutch out. After pulling it I found that the center section completely detatched from the friction disc. They really dont seem to stand up to mods as all I had was a K&N intake kit. I ended up getting a stock replacement kit from my buddy at a vette shop for $250.

Well, i actually didn't try to shift without the clutch. But either way, when I let the clutch out it in gear it would not move, stall, bog. nothing.

you can even put it in 4th gear and it wont move? if it can go in 4th without moving im pretty positive its your clutch. 4th gear is the direct drive and you should be able to move the car in 4th if its not the clutch. but if it trys to move in 4th but none of the others...your going the wrong way up the wrong creek with no paddle.

if 4th gear works that means your input shaft and your cluster gears died...VERY expensive.

Now looking at your mods at Fquick I am almost sure its your clutch...mostly because I dont see an upgrade on there for the clutch but running a CAI and some other mods with NO2 on a higher milege car I would say its gone.

Like I said mine went out in my 96 Z28 with 135k on the clock and my only mods were a K&N FIPK and some NGK plugs.

Well, we are leaning toward the pressure plate because it feels like the clutch is still open. Since I have owned the car, I personally haven't sprayed it. I was told it had another clutch installed at one point.

I've got everything unbolted, but can't get an extra hand until tomorrow or tuesday so i will drop the transmission then. But i did find out I had an aluminum driveshaft today. Having some troubles getting the torque arm off. Really makes me wanna buy a new torque arm and some boxed LCAs. I'll keep updated after we drop the tranny

Well your just gonna have to pull it to check for clutch hydraulics or clutch related issues. If all looks well it's most likely an internal affair with the trans.

Ok i am deciding if I should pay the $35 more to get a Spec Stage 3 over Stage 2. But I only have boltons right now, don't want to overkill. Will I see a difference between these 2 clutch kits?

Ok well, i have read good and bad things from about each clutch i look at. I decided to go with the SPEC Stage 2 clutch kit. I ordered it this morning, we will see how good it is i guess
