Default trying to reinstall my trans

so i'm trying to reinstall my trans with the car on jackstands A MAJOR PITA

i put the bellhousing on first

so i get the input shaft lined up and its splined with the clutch and everything
and its got like a centimeter before its flush with the bellhousing but that damn dowel pin that sticks out i think its blocking it, when i took the bellhousing off the trans it was a bitch to get off,

so i'm thinking everything has to be lined up its just that dowel pin thing that wont let the trans go on, i'm about to saw that bitch off

spent 2 hrs trying to get it on
any input?

if it is that close, try to start threading bolts. make sure they go in properly, and if they do, start tightening bolts, it will help pull the tranny in

Very tight clearances make for a real pain on install. You just have to keep fighting with it. Not a great idea to try and pull it in with bolts. If it won't slid ein, something is not aligned right.

also you could use a couple longer bolts to get it started so you dont put to much stress on to little thread and strip them out.

Yea I guess "use the bolts" worked, huh? Well good luck with the rest of the install.

taking the bell housing out with a seized up passenger side dowel pin is a major pita.imagine putting it back on with the tranny bolted to it,with jack stands and and laying on your back

Imagine? Hell I've done it, both ways, although only once with one prescribed method, can you guess which one? There's slots for prying on the bellhousing, so seized or not it shouldn't be a problem getting out, and going back in, clean it up first.

LOL... you guys kill me, my car is on jack stands right now. Fourth clutch change in as many years. You think you got it rough! I had true duals with an X-pipe that was locked in there. I used to change clutches with the Xpipe hanging on my chest. I switched back to a Hooker catback just because of it and actually gained power. Today was GREEAAT, I was actually humming along. Everytime I got pissed I just thought about that dreaded X-pipe. Anyway as for your prob you had, just for future reference, next time take some sand paper to the dowels and a smidge of grease doesn't hurt. She'll slide right in next time. Cause believe you me, there will be a NEXT TIME!
