Default 1,2 Shift Fork Billet Keys

Anyone else have issues with them? I had some put in. They seem to be to tight and won't allow you to shift into those gears.(with the trans out of the car or in).

So today we are gonna tear it back down and put new stocks back in. Anyone else ever see this problem before?

Where did you get them from? Some of them use the Z06 stock 1-2 keys which have a hump on the ends that you have to grind down.

Thanks,
Amber

umm...oh i had to look it up in my statement..lol Gear Vendors. I think they were tight going in is what Matt told me. The 3/4 5/6 shifts flawlessly, even reverse is smooth. I think either the spring that comes with them or the keys themselves are just a little off or something, cause its almost like it is locked out of 1 2 thats how hard it is.

They probably use the same ones and you have to modify the end of the keys where the humps are. If you didn't that is why you can't get 1/2. We learned that the hard way years ago. Modify that and the keys will work great.

So do you think once we tear it down and sand those down that it will shift smooth like the other gears?

Something doesn't sound right, think it's possible the synchro got overextended during the rebuild and the synchro's just stuck? Did the synchro slide before installation?

I'm a bit confused on the terminology.
Is the shifter pin blocked from going forwards and backwards within the 1st/2nd travel guide, or is the pin entirely blocked from sliding over to the left to get into that guide to begin with? Sorry for the bad news, that's got to be a huge let down.

See the billet ones have a hump on each end. Those have to be machined down. The stock ones don't have those humps. That is why you can't shift 1/2 gears.

Thanks,
Amber

why manufacturer it that way then? I say that cause they clearly will not fit into the other gear sets and I don't understand how if these are made for the corvette how they would work in that application either. Anyone care to post up some pics to show them in a Corvette T56.

Look at the manual for a vette and it should show you a picture. I don't have a good one here. No one that I am aware of makes the keys. If you modify them they are just fine. Who you bought them from should have told you that. I modify them for my customers unless they can do it themselves.

Well either way we made it work, we just put brand new stockers in. I am not gonna worry about breaking 1, 2 anyways.

Sorry you had to find out the hard way. The problem is that the Corvette synchros are a different design = tri-cone. The Fcar double cone struts( incerts, keys) are different/ not interchangeable. Also, alot of the aftermarket parts are just poorly made.

I got the same keys recently. My only worry about shaving them down is it looks like the springs will pop right off the keys.

Or do the gears/blocker rings etc and the shifter fork all prevent those extreme movements of the slider.. ?
