Default where to get a better-than-stock t56 FAST?

I'm in a unique situation here, I'm in the navy and i'm going out to sea on the 9th of april. I live in norfolk, va and while vacationing in maryland yesterday, mt tranny blew up! I don't know what exactly happened, but there was a loud noise, then the whole thing just locked up. the car is now sitting in the AAMCO transmission shop parking lot in maryland, 235 miles from home. Unless i find somewhere to get a new t56 this weekend, they(AAMCO) are going to put one of their trannys in and it's probably going to cost ~4000$. I know if i only had more time, and if the thing was in my driveway i could send the tranny off to Six Speeds Inc, and get the 4+ upgrades, but i don't have the luxury of time. The car has to be done by the 9th, and out of the AAMCO parking lot, or else i'm gonna be paying their damn storage fee the whole time i'm at sea. So I need a built t56, ready to be shipped overnight and no need for a core (unless they accept the core after delivering the tranny). thanks!

Call D&D or six speed inc and see if they will help you out. I know last week D&D had a built trans sitting around. Sometimes they have already rebuilt transmissions just sitting around. Its worth a shot.

thanks, i checked out D&D and Six Speeds Inc, both are not open on weekends, so i will have to suck it up til monday i guess. HEY! new thought just entered the dome! I could rent a truck and tow the thing home so i'm not at anybody's mercy and fix it when i get around to it. may not save me any money, but at least i could get the beefed up tranny that i need.

A stock GM tranny can be had in the low 2k range(?) and billet keys / bronze fork pads aren't terribly expensive. That would beat 4k and any association with AAMCO.

And yes, I'd tow it home yesterday.

No problem Joey, just trying to help a brotha out. I'm going to need my Pro-Shifted trans freshened and a new input shaft (bent) pretty soon and I am keeping you guys in mind.

Yeah we can't get you one quick. Our cores are about 6-8 weeks out right now. Try FLT. Finishline Transmissions. Chuck might be able to help you out if Joey can't. Since you are closer to them the rebuild time would be cut in 1/2 rather than going with one of us 1200 miles away.

Good luck on your build.

Amber
