Question high whine sound from tranny??

Here is what happens when slowing down I get a very loud whining sound around 45 down to 30 mph. Note: I'm in neutral clutch is not engaged.
While the clutch is not engaged I can put force on a gear (like I'm trying to force it in gear without using clutch) and the noise will stop.

Lately the sound has even started while I'm driving never while accelerating though.

I have checked the ring and pinion for wear patterns and they are great and the backlash is at 7 thousands. I also left the driveshaft in the transmission while it was in gear and there was very little play in it.

Any ideas??? I'm lost here

sorry about the quality I had my little nephew do the filming.

O and he said sunshine in some girly voice hahaha

My first thoughts would be that you're getting it from the rear end but sounds like you tested that.

Maybe you've got a bearing in the trans that's worn? Just a guess considering it goes away when you put pressure on a gear.

Sounds like the pinion bearing closest to the pinion yoke . I did a car about 6 months ago that sounded exactly like that . Bad news is , it still had some gear noise after the bearing were replaced but was a lot quieter so the customer left it alone .

will it stop making the noise if I push on the shifter if it's the bearing?

Does it do it no matter which gear you push against or only 1-3-5 or 2-4-6? The reason I ask is 1-3-5 would push the mainshaft, driveshaft, u joint, and pinion bearing towards the rear of the car. 2-4-6 would pull it towards the front. I suppose either action could stabilize the bearing and eliminate noise if it's worn.

I'm not sure. I usualy just go for 2nd just because I can pull on the shifter. I will have to try the other gears next time I drive the car. I really just dont feel like taking my new Dana appart. I just pulled out one of the axles and I really didnt want to, but I had to pull out some of the studs.

I noticed this in my car recently but it is only in 1st gear when at idle speed. Sounds like a rear end whine but it is coming from the tranny for sure. Not sure if this is related, but thought I'd post this info here in case it has anything to do with the same problem.

try something simple like changing the tranny fluid! maybe there might be metel in the tranny? giv this a try, put a really strong magnet on the drain plug of the tranny (external part of the plug) and drive the car for a few days, then drain out the tranny see if there is any type of metel or anything on it, and try syncromesh fluid! that stuff works great!!!!

I have done that but didnt do the magnet thing. I just pulled the tail shaft off and looked at the built in ones there were fine.

Syncromesh is all I use.

Like I stated above I checked the gears they have a perfect wear pattern and no chips.

It will stop making the noise when I push the shifter against 1st or 2nd

the harder I push the less noise there is..

Also it's still loudest around 45-30 mph when I'm coasting to a stop.
