^ All I can say with certainty is the only tools I used on the internals were a few different sized pair of snap ring pliers and didnt damage any bearings ( reused them all ) and gear pullers.
Only "special" tool I needed was making arm extensions to pull the 5/6 gear off.
I also reused all the snap rings. You can "retighten them" by hammering them slightly back in once they are off to make them grip super tight again. Its not the perfect method, but its how every trans shop around here does it.

Very true. Anyone have a link to the Vette specific manual? The other thing I've discovered is the thrust washers in the 1-2 syncro assembly that the F-body T56 manual shows don't exist in the vette tranny. I thought I lost them. LOL

^ Speaking of assembly lube, I used vasoline and packed the taper bearings as if they were wheel bearings, and did my best to pack the needle bearings too. I have two seasons on this build with lots of miles and its butter smooth, whisper quiet.
I also run plain jane Dex3 non syn cheap stuff ( Canadian Tire house brand ) Its the quietest and smoothest lube Ive run thus far, and I've run a bunch of t56's now. Used to run Mobile1 syn and it worked good, I put the most miles on this fluid and it was clean upon disassembly, but it was notchy shifting.

Thanks. Not sure why the writeup says not to remove it unless you're replacing it. There is no way around removing it, and without that bearing split plate, you have to sacrifice the bearing by pulling the cage and bearings off with the selector cog and then heat up the bearing race and tap it off with a drift.
Here, note the order of assembly. #22 Bearing, Mainshaft Small Tapered
Pliers used
