Default t-56 stuck in 5th?

Hello.

My transmission I believe is dead.

Like the title says, she's stuck in 5th. A few nights ago I was driving it and for some reason it wouldn't stay in 6th gear on the highway. So I put it in 5th, which also felt funny, but way less funny than 6th. Upon decelleration, I noticed it was not coming out of fifth. I did as much as possible to get it out and finally succeeded. The next day I attempted driving it to a local Transmission shop and noticed that every gear felt mushy or sloppy but it still drove. So after the guy fiddled with it for a minute...it was permanently stuck.

Now, I had it towed back to my house and am about to initiate the transmission removal sequence. I may be taking pictures and stuff. Hopefully I can figure this out. Any input on what it might be? Thanks.

Could be several things....broken/missing fork pads, slider keys broke/popped out, shifter top hat broken, bent fork etc.

Yeah. Sucks ay? Right now I'm just in the middle of trying to find this mysteriously absent "Eighth Bolt" on top of the trans/bellhousing.

So, I pulled the trans, brought it to the local transmission shop. They're quoting me $2,005 in parts+labor to fix it. Supposedly my only other option from them is this "650tq" remanufactured T-56 for $2100 from someplace in ny or nj this guy deals with. I'm stumped. Should I take it back and send the core to sixspeedsinc? Will they take a supposed "completely fubar'd" trans?

Frustrated as hell.

Rick.

That's crazy. At least if you send it in to sixspeedsinc, they'll give you an honest repair idea..

For that kind of money you could get a pretty nice setup from SixSpeeds. Give them a call, they'll help you out.

I found out that the Company is Rockland Standard Gear. Which after researching is a pretty reputable company.

When I asked what was actually wrong with my transmission, they kinda gave me a runaround explanation. I ended up getting the that whole countershaft is bad? The 5-6 slider and pretty much everything to do with 6th is junk. Oh well. Thanks for your input/sympath thus far.
