Default reinstall tranny, now issues:update info

My T56 was out of the car for 6 months while putting the 408 in. The trans before install was fine and had a rebuild with new syncros about 4 months before that. Cruising down the road it shifts fine but when I am getting on it and try to shift, it doesnt want to go into gear until the rpms come back down. It also is making kind of a grinding sound when shifting. 4th gear also pops out half the time when I shift to forth. Once the rpms come back down, it will stay in 4th fine. There is no vibration from trans. Clutch engages smooth. I tried the 1st gear with cluth in to see if it pulls, it doesnt, it stays still. This seems odd that it worked when I pulled it out and now it doesnt. I want to eliminate the other possible problem before I have an expensive rebuild done.

I don't know about the tranny popping out of gear, but the rest of it sounds like a clutch that's not disengaging all the way. If you put it in 1st with the clutch on the floor and rev it to 6500 RPMs, does the car roll?

How was the trans stored? It almost sounds like the blockers/CF-liners have dried out and not synchronizing the shifts any longer?

If that is the case, they may have worn beyond recovery, depending on how much driving you've done?

Stored for 6 months, still had about 2 quarts in it. I will go try the high rpm 1st gear thing. I hope it is something easy.

You were right. I took it out and had it in 1st with clutch depressed. I rev to about 6K for 2 seconds and it did lurch forward about an inch every time. So the next step, what part would the most likely culprit be?

bleed the system. A mityvac from harbor freight helps well. You might need to make your master adjustable as well if the bleeding doesnt work

Bled it yesterday hoping to maybe fix the promblem, no change. I was thinking first place to replace would be a master.
