Default 10 sec. clutch that's smooth on the street??

My shipment from Nitro Dave's will be arriving shortly I need to order a clutch NOW. Car will see some dragstrip action with Quick Time Pros, but spends 99% of its time on the street, so it's worth it to me to spend the $$ to get a smooth clutch that will take DD-type use and not chatter or be an on/off switch. Durability is also VERY important. I have a Mcleod adjustable master, if it makes any difference. So, based on this......

Tex OZ700 x or z?

Spec Super Twin with organic disks?

Mcleod Street Twin?

Ram Street Dual?

Or anything else???

Or would you suggest AGAINST any of these? PLEASE CHIME IN!

i am going the twin disc route, i make 500+ at the wheels n/a and it will be seeing a big shot of spray down the road.

everybody seems to be happy with their mcleod/textralia/spec twin disc setups. so i would say go with one of those three, cause thats what im going to do

I run the CARTEK clutch, shifts lightning fast and soft as stock on the street.. then again im only making 507HP and shifting at 7000rpm after a 6500-7000rpm launch... :p

Tex

Since I started using them this year, I'll never go to another clutch unless a customer does it against my recommendation.

I haven't heard much about the Cartek. I was assuming that I'd probably have to go with a twin for durability and smoothness. Five years ago a grabby, pain in the *** clutch didn't bother me, but I've gotten to the point that I'll gladly shell out a grand+ for a clutch that isn't a pain in the *** if I get caught in stop-n-go traffic or happen to have Mr. Policeman watching me.

MCLEOD TWIN DISK!!!! RST OR RXT

both with steel flywheel are less then $1k.

I made 16 track passes in one, day with 4 hot laps within 5 mins.

The RST loved the abuse and is great on the street.

There is a reason the new zr1 comes stock with a twin disk! it can handle more power and has better street manners

Streetability, power holding, and mileage life all work against each other. Your conflicting wishes will mean you are never satisfied with whatever clutch you get.

That's entirely true for single disk, but don't the twin disk clutches kinda pull off all 3 somehow?

My Exedy twin has been in the car since Jan 05. Full weight 98 T/A making 550/504 NA and running in the tens... no issues yet.

It was also oiled down once due to a moron at LG not installing the rear crank plug correctly. We cleaned the hell out of it, put it back in and its still holding up great.

Check out the Spec 3+. They are good up to something like 800 or 850 ft lbs. I've got one and couldn't be happier!

true statement... multiple plates allow for more mating power surface, promote longevity and streetability

maybe the $$ and with a twin disk there is less surface area that grabs the input shaft i would think since there has to be room for two disks in the space that would hold one disk. go for it if you have the $

Twins can also be noisy and rattle at times.

What are you shooting for in terms of peak torque output. Ultimately you may be fine with a 3+ or you could opt for a Super-Twin. That being said let me know and I will be happy to provide more info. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!!

RPS Street Twin has been awesome so far on the streets and track. Ran a Cartek prior with a ton of beat downs and 18K on the clock when it came out.

I have yet to have any success with a single disk setup. Some people bitch about noise from thier twin disks. I say to that, don't F'n race.LOL I can't hear anything over my exhaust anyways. I am putting in a McLeod twin right now. It will be my first twin setup.
I say go twin just from 1st hand knowledge that singles don't hold up well with racing and daily driving. Good luck.

Its a great clutch. I have had all 3 generations of their clutch in my car and every time they got better.

I hot lap my car relentlessly because it only seems to run the number if I make 3+ passes back to back. At a rental day, Ill do a pass, come right back to the burnout box with zero cool down time. I usually do 3 passes in a row, sometimes 4, launching at 6500 and upwards of 7200. Never had it slip. The pack up the slicks and sit in traffic on the Turnpike on the way home. Right foot does not get tired one bit.
