Cool t 56 output shaft question

How can I find out if my output shaft on my t56 is bent? Just looking at it I can't tell. Is there a way to check it to see if its bent by measuring something? I had a dragstrip failure and I don't want to put the transmission all the way back in only to find out that my shaft is bent. any suggestions? Thanks.

Might want to just secure tranny well on the bench or tranny stand and put a right angle up against the shaft that is secured to the bench as well. Spin the tranny with a yoke from the tail shaft and watch for any run out.

crude but should give a clue.

Other wise contact a good tranny shop for suggestions or have it checked.

www.ddperformance.com has been very helpfull to me over the phone. Other 6 speed sponsors on this digest should be able to help.

Put the new driveshaft on the output shaft, leaving the rear disconnected.

Shift to Neutral.

Install a runout gauge where it can contact the machined surface of the driveshaft yoke.

Rotate the driveshaft by hand and watch the runout gauge, any deflection will show up there. Post the number it indicates here and get some comments.
