Default How to tell difference between slave cylinders

I was going to do a clutch swap and I have a 2002 Z28, I know that the 2001-2002 f-bodys had better slave cylinders than the 1997-2000 models. I was going to order an OEM one from a sponcer but how do I know if I will get the right one. I did a search and the only thing I could find was that they had different color rubber caps. Orange for the older ones and Green for the newer ones. Well, anyone could switch caps to sell the obsolete slave, how else can itell I get the right one, are there different part numbers between the two?

Honestly, I've looked up this issue for months on here, talking to sponsors, mechanics, LS1 shops, etc, and no one really seems to know for sure whether the cap color makes a production year difference. Good luck with it and let me know if you find a definitive answer, but I doubt you will unless you limit your search to just one or two sources because after a few more, they tend to contradict each other.

Heres my experience with it:

In our 02 (60k miles) i have the original master, a new LS6 clutch and a 75.00 slave i installed in 06.. It has the green fitting,(Its not a cap, its the actual fitting the master line connects to) and not ONCE has the clutch pedal EVER given me problems...

Our 00 (35k miles), i just put a brand new GM Master, original LS1 clutch, and the same brand slave but with an orange fitting. If i go through first and second hard, the pedal gives me issues.. It may not stick, but it will be soft..

The 00 is making 392rwhp, while the 02 is only making 351rwhp, so i dont think that is related..

Alright so it sounds like the orange cap is the older shitty one and the green cap is the newer one. I wonder if they have different part numbers

My brother got a ram slave a few months ago. I got a coni-seal slave a few months ago. They both look exactly the same, both have the orange fittings. But I paid $80 for mine new and he paid $130 for his. I also put a updated master in mines with the drill mod and I have had no problems. I think all the new slaves are the updated ones now. I don't think the color of the fitting matters.

I just bought one from Oreilly's a few days ago. It had a red cap and it is an oem BP piece. It even came with a special line disconnect tool. I got it for $80 and so far so good.
