Default Transmission running hot?

I have noticed that my gear shifter gets hot to the touch at times while driving. Is this normal and how can I check my fluid on a m6 01 Camaro ss?

They do get hot. You can check the fluid by p;ulling the 3/8's inch square drive plug out of the side of the trans. The lowest on is for draining the trans. You might want to change the fluid if never done, good maitnence idea.

You can knock some of the heat out by changing the type of fluid as well . We have noticed a significant drop in heat by going to Royal Purple Syncromax fluid on several types of transmissions . This is not their ATF blend , its designed for use in transmissions like yours .

I was actually thinking about going to synthetic as I has alot more benefits. I will check this out when I go to the parts store in a few. Thanks for the suggestion.

There is nothing special to do when changing out your trans. fluid is there? Just pull the drain plug and refill?

Just pull the lower plug on the passenger side , let it drain . Refill through the plug on the passenger side thats higher up . It should take a little less than 4 qrts . If going with RP , make sure you get the SYNCROMAX . Their ATF is too slick for use in your transmission .
