Skip Shift Eliminator Problem
When I bought the car (98 Trans Am), the guy told me it had the skip shift eliminator on it. For a while, it never came on, but now it does sometimes. Not everytime I shift, but about half the time. What do you guys think it could be? Loose connector? I'll have the car jacked up soon, so I'd appreciate any advice on what to look for.

When the light comes on do you actually get locked out of 2nd and 3rd or are you just going by the light?
The eliminator modification actually has you unplug the solenoid that locks out 2nd and 3rd gears so its impossible for it to activate. you then plug whats essentially a resistor into the wiring harness so the computer thinks something is still there. The light will still come on anytime the skip shift should activate, but since the solenoid is unplugged its nothing more than just a light popping up on the dash.

If you just unplug it without putting a resistor in it won't the PCM turn the SES on for a skipshift code? Was talking to a guy down the street on how to disable his yesterday and told him to use a resistor like on installuniversity.

It will trigger a code in the computer, but I don't think it trips a light. If there is a resistor in there already the light will come on but nothing happens. You can change the parameters with EFIlive so it stops working completely.

The "eliminator" is just a resistor that plugs into the plug that used to go to the solenoid that is locking you out. if it came "loose" it would simply fall out, your light would come on, the skip shift would not work and there would be a code in your computer for it.
