Default help!!! clutch problem

i just picked up an 98 z28 with 136k mi and im having a problem with the clutch. the car has all the bolt ons i can think of and an ls6 clutch. when the car gets over 5000 rpms the clutch feels like it just gives out. could this just be clutch fluid or do u think im going to need a new clutch.

ps. the car has an built 8.8 rear end with 4.10s and some slicks im thinking im going to need a new clutch some time soon.

What do you mean the clutch just gives out? Does it slip or you just can't shift?

On a side note, do you have any pics of that 8.8?

so once you hit around 5000rpm, the clutch slips and the rpms go up really fast??

kind of sounds like you need to do the DRILL MOD, you can thank GM for having small hydraulic lines which limits fluid flow at high rpms which is why your pedal feels weird above 5000.

It sounds like its either the clutch is slipping or the slave is not releasing when applied. The slave sticking could be caused by the restriction in the line from the master if the fluid is black & it cant travel back into the master. In that case, the drill mod & a good flush of the clutch fluid might help. Use DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid. DOT4 is better, more resistant to boiling.

The drill mod consists of removing the clutch master & drilling out the restriction in the steel braided line. Once you remove the master, remove the roll pin & theres a restriction built into the line on the master cylinder side of the line. A 7/64 drill bit is what you'll need. Do a search & you will find out all you need to know about it. I highly recommend doing it, even though it may not fix the problem you are having. Be careful not to break the bit off in the line. I didnt have any problems but others have. I would think if you use a good quality drill bit you shouldnt have any problems.
