Default New flywheel question

I am sitting here looking at my new RAM steel flywheel. It does not have the PP alignment dowels in it, but it has the holes for them. Should I drive the dowels out of my old flywheel and install them in my new flywheel?

Most of the aftermarket clutches do not use the dowels. The pressure plates do not have holes in it for the dowels to fit into. I had to remove the dowels from my stock flywheel to use the Cartek PP.

The dowels are on there b/c the stock clutch's PP slides over the dowels making it easy to line up.

The real purpose of the dowels is two-fold:

1. It aligns the clutch to the center of the flywheel for balance.
2. The stock pressure plate drives off the pins.

Our unit drives and centers off the shouldered clutch bolt. That is why there is a slight counterbore on the holes.

Thanks for the reply. The clutch is in and it feels good.

My old spec clutch was not only worn out, but one of the springs had come out of the clutch disc hub and was embedded in the side of the pressure plate. I can't really say anything bad about it because I had 30,000 hard miles on it.

I had a bitch of a time with the adjustable Master cylinder, but it is working. I really hate that thing.
