Default Tick Performance Adjustable Master Cylinder Review

Let me start off by saying that the last couple of weeks have been a nightmare as far as my car goes. Coming back from Texas my clutch/tranny decided to start making funny noises 200 miles from home. I said screw it and just kept on driving. Well, long story short, the tranny died shortly thereafter.

Fast forward a few weeks and the car became the proud owner of a low mileage MN12 transmission and new Centerforce clutch. For some reason I could just never get the clutch to fully disengage even after everything, and I mean everything, was replaced. Well, call me lazy but I opted to try the new Tick master cylinder rather than pay $10-15 for a shim.

My first impression of the master was that it was really well built, definitely a lot beefier than the stock junk. Now I know that Tick says its not easier to install than stock but they must have hands the size of gorillas cause I had that thing installed in half the time it took to install a stock one. F%$& the u-bolt is all I can say about that.

After a few drives to get the adjustment down I took her out to see how she shifted up top. At 6500 rpm's I yanked the shifter into second and to my surprise it slid right in, smooth as can be. Then I took it to a parking lot, stuck it in first with the clutch pedal to the floor and wound the hell out of the motor. The car didn't creep one bit. So finally after dealing with this situation for weeks on end I can say my car is good.

Oh, and I can't tell you how much better the MN12 tranny is than my old one. Those lower gears really get the car moving and 6th will actually accelerate the car now.

So for those of you with hydraulic related shifting problems there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and its Tick Performance.

Thanks a lot guys.

The clutch pedal probably lost a full inch of travel, which was to be expected with the increased fluid capacity. I'm sure I could adjust it out more but it feels really good the way it is.

Question- I just started on Tick master install. Ive done a new 4th gen mster before, but I am not getting anywhere on this. Do you go in from the top or from bottom with install? I got the old out from bottom without much effort.

I went from the top. After feeding the braided line between the fenderwell and steering knuckle I worked the master past the brake booster. You have to rotate it as work your way back but I had mine in pretty quick. Make sure you have all the adjustable pieces removed when you're doing this though, they're easy to install from inside the car.

isnt that simply the effect of having different gear ratios and not the MN12 tranny itself?

Default Ya you can !!!!?

Its really called the m12 the mn12 is what the vette has it would take alot of work to get it in there !
The m12 does have much taller gears........ its was for the heavier gto cars late model ....the m12 is much much much stronger than the m6 from factory!

Its out of an '04 GTO. I wasn't aware that there was both an M12 and an MN12.

Not sure I see what you're saying. The M12 tranny actually has the lower gear ratios, except for 4th. The rear gears are stock.

I always heard that the steeper gears made the M12 the weaker of the two trannies.

THAT IS VERY GOOD NEWS! I have been having lots of problems shifting my car above 6500.

Last night I ran the car, missed a few shifts from the lack of clutch letting go! lol

anyways, Toooooo bad. I dont think I could order one right now and have it in time for the shootout... I guess I will be shifting 6500 lol

I believe the M12 has shorter gears... not taller.

I was just making a point that when you said the new tranny is awesome cause the shorter gears really get the car moving and 6th gear accelarates the car that that is a result of just having different gear ratios regardless of the tranny itself, you could have kept the tranny from before and still had the same gear ratios as you have now with a 6th gear that accelerates the car by just changing the gearing in your car.

I'm glad everyone isn't having too much trouble installing these things. The wiring harness makes it a little difficult. I've probably had one bolted in and out of my own car a dozen times testing the fitment, I just didn't want people to get discrouraged if they thought it was a little difficult to install.

Regardless of install time I don't think anyone should be discouraged. I had my tuner out today and even he was impressed by how much faster I can hit the gears now. As far as F-body's are concerned it's really not bad and not dealing with the U-bolt helps alot. I know vettes take a little more work but I'd guarantee that it's worth it

The MN12 is the GTO transmission. Same steeper gearing as the Vettes. I've got one in mine, as well.
