Default Shifter messed/bending push rods.

My buddy has a 00 Z28 with apro 5.0 shifter and he just bent his push rods for the 3rd time this year, he has a spect 3 clutch and full exhaust, around 65,000miles, do you think his tranny or shift forks could be messed up and casuing this. thanks, i dont want to have this problem....

This is not the fault of any shifter but the hand that was on it!. The are safer shift techniques ( hand / palm positioning) that limit this happening but in the end this is simply operator error. If the shifter had a very short stick on it ,finding the gate was compromised even further.
The fact that the trans actually shifted into an RPM range that damages push rods is a stout statement for the durability of T56 synchronizers. You should not have to worry unless you have similarly poor shifting habits/ practices.

well, i wasnt sure if its a possible bent shift fork or something. Well my clutch is on its last life, its at the top of my pedal and it doesnt slip yet but my shifter feels super notchy now, and it just feels like it shifts alot harder now like pushing a ball into a socket it clicks pretty hard, it never used to, and then sometimes its as smooth as butter... I have the stock shifter and i want to get another one but im not sure what to get since he has a pro 5.0 and has problems........

Its not the shifter I have the same one and I cant miss a gear.I used to miss gears before also when I would try to powershift, but then I swapped my stock master cylinder for a mcleod adjustable the difference is like night and day.As for the bent pushrods try switching to a synthetic oil it also solved my bent pushrod problem for 7 years now.

Go with Hardened Pushrods, and try not to hit it fast with high RPMs..

I think he uses synthetic Oil, and its because he mechanically over revs by going from 3rd to 2nd! I dont think oil can save that. maybe his pro 5.0 is messed up?

yeah going from third to second is to much, hardened pushrods would be his best bet. But even then that just might lead to something else breaking. What about his master cylinder is it stock, that might be why he keeps missing gears.

ya thats why he didnt put hardened push rod in it, he has the whole push rod replacement down pretty good now and its cheaper and easier then bending valves. But i dont think i like my stock shifter too much and i want to be able to not be scared of shifting fast and doing what he did, but he had a pro5.0 and still messed up...so idk what shifter to get.

If he shifting with his left hand? lol

If the shifter is set up properly (forward/rear stops adjusted right, and the shifter itself is not installed backwards, lol) and the clutch is too, there shouldn't be much of an issue unless he's trying some wide-open throttle shifts and is taking a heck of a lot of time to push that shifter into 3rd.

Well he took his shifter off and put the old one back on and likes it, so i was thinking of trying to see if he will let me see how the Pro5.0 is, is there 2 different pro 5.0s cus both my friends have them but the one works and feels different, and he doesnt miss shift, so im hoping maybe my other friend that bends push rods installed it wrong and that was the problem.
