Default Machine Shops Around Chicago

I have had some trouble finding a good machine shop around the Chicago land area, I need my valve seals and valve guides replaced. Does anybody know of good machine shops that are reputable?

Sorry to hijack your thread but since it's on topic with the list of services at AES, maybe it'll benefit you too.

AES, I will be swapping in brand new 243's and will be installing the valves that were on my 241's. Someone suggested that I have a valve job and have the valves "lapped". Could you explain this? I'm assuming it's getting the valves seated properly against the valve bowls of the new heads? How much would this cost?

Also, what are the benefits of getting a valve job? I'm kinda tight on cash and thinking about the horsepower/dollar ratio.

Thanks!

lapping is using sandy paste, this goes between valve seat and valve, when you spin the valve (hence "lap") with the paste on the seats this sharpens the contact area (margin) between the valve and seat. Better you can seal the valves more power potential. Lot of people are concerned with air flow, however filling a cylinder can only happen if the exhaust valve seals.

We lap the valves with valve job.

5 angle Valve job typically picks up 10cfm airflow, however with valve job, we can cut the seats for larger valves, I would say that gets most for your money.
2.02/1.57 valves installed in ported 243 heads should yield 300cfm@.600 lift.

let me know if you have any other questions
