I am an aircraft mechanic (sheetmetal fabricating/ structures mods and repair). I get good money to sit around half the night, drink Mt. Dew and talk to my buddies while I wait for parts. I also work in a climate controlled building There are avionics guys also, IE electritions on airplanes.
Most contractor sheetmetal guys make $28+ an hour or more, a little less then half of it is tax free.
If I did not do this I would have put a lot of thought into electrical (not aircraft electrical)
Some airlines pay $30 plus, again, you are screwing around half the night lol.

if you are in NW Indiana you want to work some kind of construction, you could work for a contractor that does work at the refinery. i am an operator at BP and we have so much going on here that the contractors will never run out of work. we also just got our permit to start a 4 billion dollar project so im sure there will be quite a bit of work going on here.
