Pre ASVAB Test

Pre ASVAB Test
Yesterday, I took the preASVAB test and scored a 61. The recruiter was saying that was a good score considering that I haven't been in school for a long while. I'm 27 and haven't done any math or english classes in hella long.
I was wondering if the recruiter was just hyping me up so I could sign and schedule myself for the test/phys. How did most of your score if you don't mind me asking.
I'm look to get into the reserves but I still wondering what branch.
Any help on this would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

I got a 99 on the pre test and a 94 on the real one so its a pretty accurate depiction of what you might really make. And if you are going reserves join the army or something, theyll give you alot more money for signing on and youll be happier. I joined the Marine Corps thinking i was gonna be a hardass but once your in you start to see thigs a lil different.

I was in the Navy and I have no regrets! Did four years on a destroyer and have been to 20 some different countries (or parts). I was stationed in San Diego, CA. I had more of an oppertunity to pick up certifications and rank in the Navy then my friends did in the Army and Marines. I picked up my water distillation, HVAC cert, and others in port. The give you the chance to take classes in port for free or computer classed to earn credits. It sucked being stuck on a ship durring the deployments, but you travel alot and you are not in the line of duty. You can choose jobs like engineer, gunners, Information tech, and swabbies then get out and choose a good job with what you learned. What ever branch you decide you will come out a better person and with a better skill.

Get an ASVAB study guide, they sell them at major book stores. Then study up and practice and take the test again. 61 is not the greatest and with practice you will get higher which will open the door for different jobs.

Your score could be better, but there is only so many MOS available in the reserves at a unit you would join, so you have to get one. I also got in the 90's iirc, but since my unit doesn't have any specfic MOS that requires high asvab scores so I got to be a generator mech....

I would want you to score in the 80's at least, that way you will likely score a GT score of 110 on the real test. 110 is the magic number when it comes to certain career opptunities in the future such as becoming an officer in the future.

line scores are the most important, dont sweat the afqt score. My line scores enabled me to pick whatever job i wanted, strive for 130+ on everything and atleast a 71 on the core subjects.
