PT test on indoor track...
I am taking my PT test for contract on wednesday. I usually get between 65-80 push ups and 60-67 sit ups but I have not run in forever. I have been training for the past few weeks on a treadmill because the weather is too cold to run in an I had pneumonia a month ago.
I ran a 14:45 two mile on the treadmill sunday night. I have to run on an indoor sport complex track wednesday @ 7am in under 16:36. I am worried I won't make it.
Variables:
Treadmill is easier on the legs (but my legs are pretty tough anyway)
Treadmill also restrict your stride more because you have to stay in a little box worth of space
Treadmill keeps your pace better but I also have a grader telling me my time each lap
Indoor track I am told has very dry air, but is it similar to gym/treadmill air? It is a multi sport complex
It is 16 laps, they say a lot of turning will hurt my time.
What do you think I will hit for a time? Should I bother worrying? Dammit!

Its all Mental. Dont sweat it. Dont start making excuses already. Your just going to syke yourself out.
Hard to tell what you will get for a time but I dont see your times changing too much. I dont think you will lose 2 minutes just cause its a different enviroment to run in. Just go out and do your best.
And Good Luck!

its still mental man, I had to take my last one on an indoor that was 18 laps and the track had sharp corners because all 4 sides were flat. It's ok, most people did better as opposed to running in 32* weather

I dont think the difference between and indoor track and a treadmill are significant enough to throw your time off by more than a couple seconds.
We have all done enough PT tests to know that they are all mental, just like the other guys said.
Good luck though, that 16:36 mark is totally reachable man.

Compared to what on a treadmill. I have heard that a treadmill can slow you down simply because you can't really open up, youre running in a little space.

I hate the treadmill. I drop atleast 30 seconds on a real track and feel more energetic after than the same distance on a treadmill.
And all but 3 of my PT test have been done on an indoor track. It sucked. The air was dry as hell, but I still managed to get bottom 11 minute 1.5 miles (yes I am slow, but that is flying for me).

sorry but 15:17 is pitiful, you can do way better IMHO. I run a 19:20 3 mile and Im not even a great runner, I smoke 2 packs a day and eat nothing but junk food. Start running long distances and the short ones will be alot easier, damn i should have joined the Army!

Some people just aren't good runners. Just be happy for the guy, he beat his goal by a minute. Good for you that you can run 3 miles in under 20 minutes. Hell I can't do it. But that doesn't mean everyone else is sub par just because they can't.

Umm, you are on active duty (PT everyday) and you are 21 years old. 19:20 was pitiful for 3 miles when I was 21 on active duty. I would have done it in under 18:00. Give the guy a break, hes in school and probably doesnt work out nearly as much as he would on active duty. Plus some people just arent runners.
