Default Question if this would offend those serving the country.

My dad recently passed, i want to get a tattoo to remember him.
I want to get the SeaBee logo tattoo, since that is where he served.

My question is since I am not military would it offend those who have served that i have a military tattoo on me?

Im not sure if i will do a banner with his name or not. I just wanted to get some input.

Thanks to all of you for what you do for the country. In hindsight i wish i had the stones to do it myself.

Thanks
Josh

like I said on SSU, I'd go with the name or years served personally but i dont see it as a problem as long as when someone asks you about it you dont mind sharing your story. I think misrepresentation would be where you run into problems

I wouldn't be offended at all, but then again I am not a SeaBee.

Perhaps, add RIP and your fathers initials and/or DOB and DOD.

yeah i think 1gen hit the nail on the head - misrepresentation is where the problem lies. if someone asks about it and you tell them you are/were a SeaBee, then your actions would be a disgrace. otherwise, just tell the inquisitor(s) the truth about it and it'll have just as much, if not more, effect as if you actually served as a SeaBee.

stoleit has a good idea too - use RIP + father's initials.

It probably would ****-off some guys who are/were SeaBees. Stoleit has a good suggestion. Or maybe do it w/o the actual logo as part of it.

Wouldn't offend me. I agree that something additional such as what as all ready been suggested would likely enhance the tat and it would remove the questions about why you have it.

Do it man. I personally am not a SeaBee... but I will tell you that if it means something to you who cares what people say. Its your body, your tat, and your memories... Get it man!

bottom line, it's your ink. who cares if it offends anyone, it's your right to get whatever tattoo you want and any military person who is offended by your tattoo is a hypocrit since that is what we do, we preserve the rights of united states citizens and our allies. in all honesty, if i just saw you on the street with that tat and knew you weren't service (believe me, we can tell) i think it would fill me with a little pride to see nonmilitary supporting what we do. get whatever tattoo you want

I am a seabee and it wouldnt offend me one bit to see you honor your father with a tattoo. I would recommend like others have a rip with his initials and maybe honoring a fallen seabee or something to that extent. Who was your dad and how old was he?? The seabees aren't necessarily a huge community and I am sure some would like to attend services if they haven't already passed.

He was in 66-68 in Vietnam then did stuff stateside till 72 as far as i have known.
The Services were earlier this month He passed on the 7th. But that is VERY thoughtfull.

One thing i will say is obviously those posting in here are military, The military Burrial with full honors was about the nicest (and hardest ) thing i have ever seen.
We were ouside in the single digit weather but it was a great honor to have the bugler, the navy serviceman to fold the flag and present it to my mother, and the rifle salute.

One thing my father always told me is the truest thing.

One of my cousins was a SeaBee in VN around that time...some type of heavy equipment operator. He worked on the excavation of the DC subway after he got out as a crane operator.

Sorry for your loss.

I have no problem as its a memoriam to your father. I don't really have worries of someone attempting to get a free drink or whatever by saying they are in the military or were in the military with those kind of tats. I do however, think some tats just shouldn't be put on someone unless they did those jobs. Great example are the green feet that PJ's get. While anyone can get them and I wouldn't be "pissed" per say, I just hope people would have the decency to let them have something like that.
