Default Looking for info about 68W MOS for US Army

This is for the military guys on this site..Im looking for more info about the 68W-Health Care Specialist MOS..im currently an EMT in my town and im waiting on acceptance into an RN program at my school..i feel that the experience i could gain by joining the Army and becoming a combat medic will only help me in the future of becoming an RN and possibly becoming a flight medic in the future..is there anyone on this site that may be able to give me some insight about this MOS? Maybe someone who has completed AIT and is now a combat medic? any info would be greatly appreciated..i hope to tlk to a recruiter sometime soon

I just got out in May and I was a 68W.

Its a good job but it really depends on the unit you go to. You can be stationed at a hospital, troop clinic or in a combat unit. The majority of 68Ws do go to a combat unit as I did.

However, if you already an EMT-B then the first part of AIT will be a breeze as you HAVE to be an EMT-B to be a 68W in the army these days. You need to talk to your recruiter and ask for him to put you in for a M6 program. That is the Army's RN program. A lot of 68W do it after a few years of actual working but if you have prior experience then shoot for the M6.

If you need anything else you can get ahold of me on AIM. Same user name as here.

correction M6 is for LPN, i was going through it but i dropped it when i discovered that it was nothing but wiping ***. Im more of a trauma person. the 68w job is great, i love it and it does have plenty of great experiences to be had. i dont regret it. I'm about to be deployed in march. leaving with an SF company so wish me luck lol.

They are right, get the M6 identifier in contract. I work and have worked at many hospitals, and yeah, you don't do as much as you'd like but heres the key, it is what you make of it. So heres what you do, join the army, go through 68W school then through M6 school, get all the education you can, then go green to gold through the AMEDD PA (Physicians Assistant) program. Big money, and lots of people want them, downside is you'll owe the army an Additional 8 years I believe, but your schools all paid for and you've got a good degree.

Yeah if you pass the NREMT beforeyou go to AIT, you will just have to take CPR again then go to another Company and do their Whiskey side, its not hard but the new enlistees get **** on it very physical. Sometimes there are some smokin hot chick and San Antonio is a BLAST.
