Leaving to MCRD 11/1/11 Well, i remember making a thread on here that i was "planning" on joining USMC... After an arduous journey of changing my contract around and taking care of a few tickets, i finally ship out this coming tuesday.
Yes, not monday but tuesday due to halloween.
Ill be a reservist for now due to having a great job and needing to finish my education. Later on i will go active for sure.
So i tried to land Infantry Rifleman 0311 but all the spots were surprisingly taken, so i picked out 0621 Field Radio Operator and was told by my gunnery sergeant that i will be attached to an infantry squad... Which is def. cool by me.
As far as Initial Strengh Test (IST). I have a lot of room for improvement, Weighed in at 160lbs standing 5'7 at MEPS.
Pull ups: 18
Crunches: 89 in 2 mins
Running: 10:51 mile and half.
Yes i know, pretty measly
but surprisingly i was in the top 5 out of 35 other poolees getting tested.... I know, ******* slobs...
I go to "poolee functions" weekly and see so many pussies, it just makes me laugh... ****, some ppl there cant even run 3 miles.
Honestly looking forward to Bootcamp and absolutely cant wait for 3 most miserable Months in my life
Im expecting the worst always!!
So, MARINES, any advice for me while staying in bootcamp?
Oh and i already learned my basic "knowledge" booklet.

im going there with a positive attitude and leaving that way. I know that most of this is a mind game. Only weak ones wont make it and imo dont belong in the USMC. I know exactly what ive signed up for and expect to be treated like an absolute piece of ****. Of course imma hate it at first, but trust me, ill learn to love it.

Well, someone's in receiving now, blouse buttoned all the way up, trousers unbloused over go-fasters, lookin' like a retard attempting to march to chow...friday should be fun - "two sheets and a blanket online!", getting slayed on the quarterdeck, and nut to butt wagon wheel showers...

yup, its not hard but you will have to put up with a bunch of stupid games. You just have to go with the flow for 3 months and its done with. after boot camp nobody will really care about what you did or didnt do in boot camp, if you were a squad leader or not etc.

Meh...i got 11 months left before my usmc EAS. Having previous college/normal independent life before the corps it was a joke for me, exactly like the OP said its all a mind game...11 months cant come fast enough, can't wait to wipe my own *** for once! Semper Pie!

if you want to be a grunt, go active. by the time you read these, God willing, you'll be on your 10 day boot leave and you'll be running around trying to figure out what to get your girl for v-day. first thing i'd do is think long and hard (maybe 2-3 days) about this civvie job. if you dont plan on it being your career, go active. that long and hard thinking will be clear now as you read this. If you feel the corps is in your blood, you'll regret not going active, and this 10 day boot leave will be the BEST TIME EVER to do something about it. no surprise the marforres 0311 billets are full in cali. both 23rd and 24th marines are pretty bad-*** (with some exceptions i wont call out on here) and dont see many casualties in combat. as a reserve comm guy, you can expect to be placed in an H&S co for a division bn (according to your gunny telling you straight). point is, as said in post 8, the longer you wait, the more likely it is you wont go active. if you do, its a pain in the butt as its basically an entire new enlistment. its not just leaving a reserve unit sunday and falling in monday morning for PT in an active unit. so now that you got your info, enjoy your boot leave and dont spend all your money on car stuff.
