Who here has opted for this option? What are your opinions? Is this only for those in an indef status or can you ETS with 15+ and submit for it?

From what I understand, it is only for those who have been selected to get QRP'd out. Although if they offered it to me I would take it and RUN as long as I had my wreath by then (if I don't have it by then I would probably give up hope anyway lol).

Thanks man, after further research I've come to the conclusion that it is only an option for those who are currently in an indef status. Even if you have 15 years of service and have not reenlisted indefinitely you can not submit for the 15 year retirement option because you are not considered eligible to do so. Basically indefinite equals retirement and ETS simply equals you getting out.

It's just not worth it in the long run.

it depends. you do lose some pay, but in my case it almost works out the same since I have 2 more years of pay than I have AD service due to reserve time. That and I expect to get 100% disability what little I would lose wouldn't make much of a difference.

You have to look at everything. My parents and my in-laws aren't getting any younger. My dad probably wouldn't make it for me to hit 15years as it is. By taking the 15year, it would give my parents/in-laws a chance to get to know their grandson. He is going on 3 and has only seen them a few times. Plus it will give me a head start on working towards my 2nd career as a US Senator.
