Default Retirement DENIED. PCS to Ft. Dix

Looks like the Army won't let me go. In June I'm moving to Dix to be an ROTC instructor. Didn't know they had a college there. Anyone been there?? WTF?

Thats some BS. Hope that doesn't happen to me in a few years. How long did it take to get your denial after you dropped your retirement papers?

yeah one of my drill's at basic got denied retirement and they sent him to schofield in hawaii, when we got here (first duty station) we saw him it was pretty funny (that we saw him). My wife is trying to get out because she's pregnant and wants to stay home with the baby and theyre probably gonna try to stop her on the stop loss/stop move

Well looks like they won't be playing basketball for PT.
Sorry to hear that things didn't work out for you though. Have an on-going incident myself.

they don't have a college there! it's an old Army base that use to be Active per say. They had Basic Training there up until the mid 90's i think.

Also that place is a big **** hole! Had to go though there on the way to OIF3 and hated every mintue of that place. Philadelphia is about an hour west of there and NY is about 2 hours north of there.

Good luck, that place makes Ft. Bragg and it's surrounding areas look like disneyland

Looks like I won't be an instructor. I think I'm being assigned to the rotc hq's there for some 9-5 sham job. But yeah, it's in the middle of nowhere. About an hour drive to work if I want to live somewhere decent. wtf. How I got picked for that I'll never know.

yeah that place is pretty bad, I'm right next door at McGuire in the Air Force. They pretty much just do field training there, there's tooons of ranges out there and campgrounds and whatnot. The one good thing though is that NJ has a lot of F-body's around. I myself have a 98 Z28 that still needs quite a few mods. Give me a buzz if you know how to work on the cars and whatnot. I'll be back around May.

Does McGuire have an auto shop on the base?

yeah they do. It's a pretty nice shop. has 2 lifts for 4.50 an hour or just the bay for 3.50 an hour and all the tools you could ever want or need at your fingertips. They have a tire machine so you can change your own tires, etc. etc. And talk deals with them so you can just leave your car there overnight, not sure what the cost is though. The guys there will help you once in a while if you need it or they have certain services for you like radiator flushes, oil changes, etc. etc.

hahahaah!!! no doubt! my name must have popped up in those meetings alot.

i asked to go to OIF1 w/4ID 3 seperate times when they asked for volunteers, battalion kept tagging me essential personnel and sent all the shitbags instead. then i get medical'd out when i could have EASILY re-classed into a tech/intel job. I even spent 6 months as the S-6 Commo Officer for Rear-D as a ******* specialist - not like i wasn't already qualified. but no, they kick me out and then a year later cut off my temp retirement.

Hey, I'm over at McGuire. Its really not as bad as everybody says. You just need to go looking for stuff. The immediate area is pretty dismal. Good news is Atco is 15 minutes away. Good, fast track. I'm always wrenching look me up when you get in town.

I work in the same squadron as camaroguy. It's sucks, but it's not terrible. Atco is a gem 20 minutes from base. I race there all the time. It's definitely a drive to go anywhere.

think that's bad? I went into the army as an 18X (SF recruit) and did basic and then for some reason they sent me to linguistics before they sent me to the SFAS and Q course I was literally 3 days from graduation day and they MD'd me saying I had some seizure disorder and so I go home and then had to go to FT Hood to get checked out by the EFMP cuz I was gonna PCS with my wife to here at Schofield and this Major that happened to be the head of the neurology dept came and talked with me and looked at my med records and said I was misdiagnosed and that I have restless leg syndrome which is common and I shouldnt have been discharged so I ask him about my DOD career and he says I'd have to go back through to day 0 in basic I was like **** THAT!

I swore the stop loss is not in effect as some of our guys are ETS. Then again it is the Reserves.

Ah Ft. Dix. All the local NYC AROTC Battalion (St. John's, NYU, Columbia, John Jay, etc) train out there. Those marshlands are scary stuff. I remember coming across many disemboweled deer carcasses while practicing landnav excercises in the middle of the woods.

The base has changed even further, with it becoming a place for joint-services intel shops.

Anyway welcome to the tri-state area!
