Good old Keesler. What are you retraining as? That's where I went for my tech. school (1C5), but I know that they do radio, ATC, ARM, and a few other things down there.

Hated it. Good luck though.

it's going to be hot, you may get a hurricane or two, and a lot of stuff is gone that used to be there. but i hear some of the casino's are up again. or you can go to NO or Pensacola to party.

I hear the casinos were few of the first things to go back up.

there is nothing to do really. Bx is basically a hanger, only place to get food on base is to have dominos or wing zone(excellent wings get nuclear). A lot of lock downs for lightning etc. Town is still rebuilding big time

he's cross-training so there's no "lock down" for lightning since all he'll do is walk out to his car and go back to the dorms. Theres not a lot of excitement there other than casino's to be honest. Gulfport Dragway is about twenty minutes away but nothing but bracket races are there as of now. Towards Mobile there's Mobile Dragway(actually in Irvington) It's a 600ft track(property limits length) but the first Saturday of the month they have a Real Street race that runs heads-up on a 5.40 index. Good racing and a great group of guys. Mobile has some decent party spots too but Pensacola is better for the beach scene and only two hours or so away. I live in P'cola and drive to Biloxi daily. Been with the Hurricane Hunters for around 25 years now(both active duty and reserves) so the drive is nothing for me. The base has a couple of F-bodys on it and a few musktangs that are fairly quick. I know of at least one that was procharged but not sure if he's still there or not. This time of year is hot, wet and tropical weather is always a risk but generally not a big deal as long as no more Katrina's come through. If you need more info PM me and I'll try to help you if I can. Good luck, Bill

hey thanks for the info guys, Casinos are always nice I love to play poker, tracks will have to check those out and if pensacola is only two hrs probably hit that up as well, Plans are to try and save some cash while there but yet still try and have a good time. Going to Thunder Racing for full tune first or second weekend in Sep since it is only a couple hrs drive

Only by the way cross training from B-1 crew chief to Information Management hahaha the first yr is going to kill me but i am sure i will be loving it on those really hot/cold days were i would have been outside

just got back from 2 weeks down there, the Beau Rivage is back open, but a lot of stuff that used to be on 90 (including most of the casinos) are just gone. The base still has repair work going on. There's not any debris laying around anymore, but they've got a long ways to go to get back to what it was.

When I was there before (fall '03), there was a drag stip over in Gulf Port that did test & tunes on wednesday night. Don't know if it's still there or not.

Gulfport Dragway is still open and they still do the wednesday night "king of the hill" thing as well as a bracket program they're trying to rejuvinate on weekends. Like I said before, the track over close to Mobile(actually in Irvington/Grand Bay) has a super bracket program as well as real street(5.40 index) and mean street races at different times during the month. The Mobile track is only600ft due to shutdown area being short but it ALWAYS hooks hard and Gary and his gang run a great program there to top it of. I'll be there this weekend for the real street race as always!!!
