If anything I think that would be more so true for squadron commanders. I'm not too sure how all the other military branches are with their tours but, the only way I've heard of an enlisted person havint their spouse in Korea is by them moving their spouse off base (a MSgt did that when I was stationed at Osan and his wife just so happened to be Korean). But maybe things are changing in regards to Korea.

yeah i heard before i left that they're going to something like that. what the gov. wants to do is cut down on PCS's(save $$$) so they figure if they build more housing they can have people live there longer

Typically there are limited "command sponsored" billets. Maybe more in some career fields than others. I know in weather there were quite a few at Yongsan, but very few elsewhere. If you have a command enlisted functional manager, then contact him/her to ask.

Our CC told us at a commanders call that command sponsored tours will be going up 20%....personally I wouldnt bring my wife and kids up here for a year much less 3! But like every other assignment...check the EQUALS and when you see an assignment to Korea for 3 years (command sponsored) jump on it.
I got 30 more days left in this country.....some people love it.....some people hate it...I had a blast...and i would prefer not to come back!!
Goodluck!!

Best assignment I have been on. I just seperated Dec. of last year and my wife got a command sponsored slot so I came along with her. I finally get to be a dependant.

Our tour came out to 2 years. I believe the army requires 3 years for sponsored but dont quote me on that. They should be finishing up a whole new set of family quarters on Osan next year. USAG Humphreys is going to be expanding like crazy so there will be alot more command sponsored slots opening. Talk to your new supervisor or first shirt and they can give you more info.

What base in Korea are you going to?

I worked with a comm guy @ Osan that was "command sponsored", He (SSgt) had his own car, off-base housing, and his family here. I believe he's here for 3 years. I don't know personally if I would do it, but that's just me.

A SSgt in our support section did that. Had his family there, off base housing, but no car.

you probably can because the AF is short on PCS money. So, that means longer tours at bases now.
