Default Poll time. How many of you like being in the Military?

Wondering out of all of you serving out there, who likes what they are doing? And who dislikes being in the military?

I like it but I don't like certain aspects of it. The power trips of "I have a college degree so I know more than you" kind of gets me every so often, but not that often heirarchy could use some work too.

There is no option that fits me. For the first 20 years I loved it and wanted to do nothing else. For the last year I can tell its time for me to go and do something else. I retire soon and I can't wait but I truely enjoyed my time in the Army and wouldn't trade it for anything.

I liked it on the active side but I love the reserve side a lot more!! The work ethic and mentality of the reserve units I have been in is way better than on the active side. Most of the reserve componenet has also served their active time so they have a good base.

I would do it all over again if i had to choose. I got a lot out of it and still do.

I like it but dont really care for it. Its opened doors for me that I didnt have before I got in and I always knew it would be just for 4 years. Ive had a pretty crappy unit so I guess that ruined most of it for me.

Overall Id still suggest it to my younger brother and Ill tell my kids to join if it fits them.

+1 to that. Plus you can't just get fired, great job security. You have to f up pretty bad to kick from the military. Hell I took leave all of August and have 5 years in. Tell me one job on the civilian side that will do that for you and have a job to come back to you know. I don't take leave very often, lol.

i wouldn't say that...i knew a guy in our shop that showed up late maybe twice. left early for leave by one day and he was gone within a week.

if someone wants you out, (the right person) you will be gone

I voted good but not great. I ETS next week and the only real reason I have for wanting out is that I just cant do 15 months away every 2 years. Ive already done it twice and Im not putting my family through it again.

I voted hate it. I get out on 8 Sep 08 after 11 years in the Army. Before 9/11 the Army was pretty fun but with all the changes in deployments and the new Army transformation it pretty much sucks now. Not to mention the ego trips of some a-holes. The Army did get to where I am now at in life now (so thats a positive) To each their own. I served and now I am burnt out and ready for a change.

Vote Obama for Change, lol.

Good luck on the outside, I love being a serviceman and a civilian plus I own my own business. Right now good paying jobs are tough to come by.

I voted Its good, but not great. The Army is a good place to learn a skill, to learn about sacrifice and commitment to something bigger then our selves. Some of my superiors(only in their minds) and alot of the latest and greatest new recruits should have joined the reserve or nationalguard or not at all. My current unit is the best unit I have had the pleasue of working for, and I may stay past 2011 if I can stay with them. The military is what you make of it , just try to ignor the walking brain dead.

i hear ya guys!! ive asked alot of the older veteran guys whos been in 12+ years or so, who said the military was alot better before all these new changes. but for me being in 6+ years its done alot of good for me.

i know being away sucks man!! but the Air Force has done alot of good for me and my family. if my wife or kids get sick, just go up to the hospital and your taken care of.. i cant imagine the hassle as a civilian.

plus im serving my country and loggin on LS1TECH at the same time during work!!! best of both worlds baby!!

Ehhh I browse tech all night long too but Im stuck in Iraq.

I will do my 4 years and be proud of what Ive done but it doesnt mean that I want to continue to do it. My best friend just re-enlisted for 4 years for Germany and I dont blame him one bit.

I just want a life and to start a family without the constant worry of deploying like I have in 3 and a half years. 24 of my last 36 months in have been in Iraq. I miss the US.

Screw Obama

Everyone says good paying jobs are hard to come by. I don't understand. I have 2 jobs that have been handing me positions and I'm not even out yet or went job hunting. I dont even have a resume yet.

I guess it depends on the field but of the jobs I have seen out there a lot of them arent very good paying. And right now positions are a lot more competitive then they were a few years ago when i got out.
