Default My 1000 mile trip home.

Well I just recently got out of the military and was stationed in Gulfport, MS. I am from Columbus, OH so that is where my trip was to. It was a smooth drive and averaged 19 MPGs in 6th @ 2050 RPMs. My car is a H/C/Bolt ons, nitrous, 4.10s, Bigs and Littles car (which I drove with them on). Thought I would share how friendly these cars are even pretty heavily modified. Here's a few pics

Starting point

Coming into Ohio (downtown Cincinnati)

Her new home.

Welcome home, I bet it was a fun trip. Ive been thinking about taking my 98 on our annual Florida trip this year (1300mi round trip)

Are you still running the stock bottom end? How many miles on it?

I remember driving my GTO from San Diego back to St. Louis when I got out of the Navy just like it was yesterday. Leaving base for the last time was a wierd feeling.

Thanks for your service.

Welcome home and thank you for becoming... a veteran of the US Navy!

Now, about the length of that trip... You can get from Gulfport to Columbus in under 900... Close enough, I guess... for gov't work. Good luck in the job market. Your skillset should help immensely.

They are racestars, if you look under my name and view my threads I posted a thread of my car when I first got the rims and tires. Should be called "WS6 on racestars" or something similar.

Yeah, crazy to think you may never see it again.

Well I live about 30 miles north of Columbus, and it had us go on some detours because I-65 was closed, it said it was like 960 miles from gulfport to delaware, ohio so add in the detours and it's damn close to 1000 lol.

Naturally your economy is much higher... You may see a difference in just the tire choice, but once you drop that rear ratio from "decent for highway" to "almost race," economy falls off almost like ET! Heads can raise power incredibly and usually reduce economy in that process. Cams can make another big change, so this big difference isn't necessarily so big as compared to gains. Yours is quick, but his hauls ***...

In a nutshell, 19mpg isn't so bad considering the performance level. It could be much worse. I once had an 13mpg car IN overdrive...

The drivability tune could use some work, but 19 isn't too bad. Like the post above me, H/C/Gear makes a big difference with both performance and fuel economy. My car will no longer be driven every day like it was the past 2 years so MPGs isn't a big deal to me anymore.
