Default [VR] WannaGOFAST GA 1/2 Mile Race Recap: May 2015 Results and Videos!

The September event in Clayton, GA with wannaGOFAST is one of our favorite events of the year. We usually see over 30 of our customer cars a day and it is pretty local to our area being under 2 hours from the shop. It is a great chance to hang out with friends and customers for the weekend at an incredible race site with the private airstrip at Heaven's Landing. The only thing that ever disappointed us with the event was that it only happened once a year. That was...until 2015. The wannaGOFAST crew scheduled a second, earlier May event this year just 3 weeks after the VA event! That made for an extremely busy couple of months to prep for both but we were ready for it and excited to have another 1/2 mile event for the year in our backyard.

Leading up to the event, weather was a question mark. Just like any normal spring day in Georgia it was threatening to rain at any minute. Luckily the percentage chance of rain fell pretty dramatically for Saturday leading up to the final days before so we were pretty confident that Saturday was going to be a great run day. Heaven's Landing is nestled in the north Georgia mountains for some great views and some really cool hangers were we setup for race prep. We showed up Friday night, unloaded the trailers and headed to our cabins ready for the morning of racing.

We got to Heaven's Landing in the morning to quite a crowd. We were expecting over 37 customer cars and they were all showing up ready to drive. It really is an awesome experience to sit back and watch such a big group of friends/customers all enjoying their cars and ready to race. Our techs were helping prep the cars and the time came to start making passes. The weather held off the entire day and made it so that everyone could get in as many runs as they needed. Here are some highlights from the day.

Our shop C7 Z06 reset our own 1/2 mile C7Z record to 170.71 mph!

Randy's TT C6Z06 took home the fastest manual car with a 187.18 mph pass on waste gates @ 16psi dialing in the new engine!

Robb's CTS-V sedan took home the fastest heavyweight with a personal best pass of 175.23!

Eddie's C5 Z06 took home the fastest naturally aspirated car with a 172.81mph run!

John's ZL1 took home the fastest heavyweight in the privateer class with a top speed of 167.41mph!

Michael Kelley made the fastest 4 door in the privateer class for the day with a 155.17mph run!

And all of our customers were able to get a lot of passes in on the day. It was a great day of racing. When everything settled down, we packed up our gear and headed back to the cabins. Sunday was looking to be a huge question mark on the weather.

On Sunday we woke up to rain. We headed to the airstrip and started prepping the cars just hoping it would stop long enough to run. For 99% of the morning it just poured down rain. Much of the field started leaving and we even started packing up some of our gear as it looked like the rest of the day was going to be a bust. Luckily for us, the rain calmed down just long enough to get about 2 hours worth of runs in. Half of the field was gone including a lot of our customers that had to leave before the rain stopped, but we were there and ready to go at it again.

Randy took home another fastest manual car for the weekend with a 177.02 mph run still on waste gates @ 16psi dialing in the new engine.

Eddie's C5 Z06 managed to take home the NA win again Sunday, while breaking his prop shaft on the 2/3 shift.

Another great weekend with wannaGOFAST was in the books and we headed home with some winning hardware. The next event will be Street Car Take Over (click here for details) then wannaGOFAST back in Clayton in September. Here is a video the guys at Gear Head Flicks put together for us along with some other pictures we found of some of our customer cars. Thank you to all of our customers and the team at wannaGOFAST. We really appreciate all of the support!
