I believe I saw on Hot Rod or some show, that the driver has a lever for each back wheel that he can drag on to keep the car going straight.

yup!

Here's some info i grabbed of thise site here:Hemi Under Glass pics and info

Little bit of history: "The "Hemi Under Glass" was an exhibition project by Hurst that was originally featured at drag strips across the country in the 1960's and 1970's. Hurst hired driver Bob Riggle to drive the mid-engine wheel-stander down the drag strip to the fascination of spectators everywhere. Riggle drove the Hemi Under Glass up until 1975 when he moved back to his home in Arizona.

Three different versions of the Hemi Under Glass were built, each based on the Plymouth Barracuda model year 1966-1968.

From the mid-70's through the 1980's the Hemi Under Glass was forgotten about, and the 1966 version was even destroyed in 1987. However, Bob Riggle decided to bring back the Hemi Under Glass and in 1992 began building a replica of the 1966 version. In 1995 Bob completed an authentic replica of the 1968 Hemi Under Glass and has toured the country with the car ever since, amazing crowds once again with his full-track wheel-stands."

Also, Hurst participated in another exhibition car called the "Hurst Hairy Oldsmobile."

HOT RODs article on the vehicle

A paragraph from the above site: "This creation, basically a 1966 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2, has a 425 cubic inch supercharged Toronado engine and drive train under the hood driving the front wheels and a 425 cubic inch supercharged Toronado engine and drive train under the rear window driving the rear wheels. This vehicle was engineered and built at the Hurst Performance Research Center in Madison Heights, Michigan, a Detroit suburb, as a rolling research laboratory."

Don't mean to jack your thread, but i did a project on these cars once so i'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to these =)

Both pics at the bottom are of the H-H-O, and yes that's all 4 tires smoking =)

I got to see the Hemi Under Glass about a year and a half or so ago out here at Speedworld motorplex...Thing is badass

It was cool as hell watching him go down the track, although it did take him several attempts before he actually made it the full track...

But yea, badass.
