Its awsome hearing those engines. I've went to the USGP in indy for the last 3 years. The v-10's sounded the best but the 2.4l v-8's dont sound much different, the engine sound is unlike anything, and you can feel the misfire from the traction control though your feet in the stands.

Yup the FIA decided to make things more fair and economical, to help balance things out and make the lower teams competitive and make things safer, decided to make all teams switch to v-8's that make around 750hp and rev to more than 20,000 rpm.
At the end of 2005, the last season where the regulations allowed 3litre engines with 10 cylinders, some engines were producing more than 980hp and running very close to the 1000hp mark, a figure that was never reached since the ban on turbo engines.
