How are yall setting your camcorders up?

How are yall setting your camcorders up? Im trying to make some better quality video's (i know that my camcorder isnt expensive or anything, but trying to make the best out of it) and i cant seem to get the right combo, i dont know if it's the camcorder settings or the video editing settins. i'm using a pinnacle studio plus editing software and a samsung miniDV camcorder. what are yall usuing?
