Some came governed at 118. You can tune it out with hp tuner or ls1 edit. Top speed... I've had mine to 155+ in 5th gear. I think the drive train is capible of 200 but the aerodynamics wont allow.

Stock speed limiter depended on what tires came on the car, Z rated tire cars were set higher - thinking it was about 160.

If im not mistaken, cars that came with z rated tires from the factory dont have a speed limiter. You can check this by looking at the tire rating on the door.

Non Z-rated tire cars around 110mph like already mentioned, Z-rated tire cars are 160mph. A tune can remove it.

I had mine up to 164 mph verfied by gps. 5th gear 5500rpm and it would go faster if it was not for the top speed limiter. I don't need to go that fast again so I left the limiter alone, on hptuners it is set at 160 mph.

maybe I think a little different then you guys, but why do you really need to go 160 mph? I dont really see a reason to get rid of a governor that is set to around 120. Going that fast is just looking to kill yourself or someone else.

umm unlikely. those cars stop pulling around 125-130 ish. ask me how i know LOL

and i have to agree with 99345hp, those speeds are ridiculous, and unless your on a closed course, your asking for trouble.

I have come real close to the limiter but havent hit it yet and dont ever plan on going that fast again, if I had to guess I would say I was right around 160mph and the car was floating like a ****.....no front swaybar. I save it for the track now

I saw a vid on youtube of a 160 mph flyby that a trans am did, and the video was taken from a car moving at the speed of traffic, it was absolutely ridiculous. made definitely not want to try it, someone could pull out in front of you a half mile ahead and you wouldnt know till it was too late.

edit: here's the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HV9NNKBL-Q really puts 160mph into perspective

double edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syWJbD1rf0Y theres a vette flyby. a few mph faster of course

^^^^ best option for doing that is going to an open road race, or the texas mile. Doing it on public roads where you cant control anything isn't really a good idea.

Ok I just had to look. Here is what could happen to your car if you do happen to crash at 160 mph.
